No worries Kim, I'm impressed regardless, Paul's bike is awesome 8) I must be remembering someone else who said there bike was around 30kg, Paul deleted a few posts during the meltdown so I couldn't find where he said the weight. Anyway, maybe he's shed a few kgs since then ... I thought he used to run 15ah.

As for the banana benders, I reckon they should use this thread to organise and document their group ride, or maybe we should change the title of the thread? :D

By all means the Queenslanders can use this thread, i just thought it might attract more attention this one seems somewhat dead bar a few regulars...We can promote it here and in a specific thread if they wish? better chance for more XXXX drinkers to see it perhaps? Was just a thought anyhoot :-)

re: Paul, Nope 10ah, i have his first pack sitting in my workshop right now actually, it has one dead cell in it. Paul gave me the pack but i haven't got to dissecting it as yet, I'll swap out the cell for one of the spares i have here, be fine for the ol Blue cruiser along with a 1500watt cyclone motor ill shoe horn into it:-)

i did have a minor issue today though Simon.... Richard had the day off work so of course we went riding, as you do haha ...so, i thought i would 'show off' a little to passing cars in some gravel near Wally Deli ( being an ex-hillbilly, you should know it well ?! home of the "Wally Burger" hehee ) anywayz, was rolling along ~10km/hr gave it a fist full rear wheel starts spinning it hooks up REAL good, the loose top layer of gravel was dry judging by the way she spun initially, however the stuff below was damp from recent rain and the hookworms bit into it, my ev-grin quickly turned to a WTF grin when I hears a loud SNAP and loss of forward powered mojo :-| Motors still spinning flat out (my immediate thoughts were "its not electrical so i have a better than average chance of fixing this myself " ) I wasn't sure at the time but had a pretty good idea it was just the #25 chain on the first gear sprocket (and it was, it snapped a link in half, was a lil loose fitting an idler to it to rectify this issue) was not a biggy second still was un touched and we continued on our way to the Backery in Kala sat down and had a fresh pizza roll and Ice Cofee before hitting the road, was a bit of a bummer more for Richard, with only second gear working i had to sit on ~50km.hr...poor ol Richard peaks at ~45km/hr so there he is pedalling like a mother fucker trying to keep up freakin' funny...i pulled over regular for him to catch up... ;-) We has something in the works to fix this though, i drew up this full scale size Monocoque frame we iz going to build up for him, fitting a 1200 watt cyclone through gear setup-->

So you busted the 1st gear chain inside the Thudster 2 speed dogbox? Lucky you still had second then ;) Yes, know Wallie Deli well as a choc milk and pie stop ... is the baker in Barbury Square ... jees haven't been there for a while. :|

The frame looks cool, will there be a build log? Anyway hope to see the finished product in a group ride some time in the future. :)

Cheers,

Simon.

PS: Ordered an x3 (on special check the website) this arvo and being delivered Thursday arvo. Will CNC as funds allow. 8)

That's where I got it from (hare and forbes machinery house on abernethy) , the x3 was $200 off. I know there are other larger models for not much more, but this one has a proven track record converted to CNC and there's a few good conversion kits to choose from:

Image

I will be adding the fourth axis (a horizontally mounted rotary table), so that should do a lot of lathe tasks as well. I'm not a big fan of those combination machines that you linked to.

The larger one I like is the hm46

Bugger about the casino ... tell me it wasn't pokie machines though :? :x

Glad to hear the thudster box is back on the road again mate. :)

Hi Simon,

I am extremely jealous.

How much does it cost to CNC it?

Can you post some links to the kits?

Cheers

Nagh mate wasnt the Pokies never played pokies in my life or poker at the casino for that matter...Roulette
BlackJack and Keno are my downfalls...i win on all more often than not, then put it all back thinking ill have
ONE BIG WIN and lose most of it ...cept drink money and cab fare obviously HAHa...aaagh well least
i have fun.....at the time....next morning ...not so much when i realize how much i have lost.

Not real convinced about CNC for home when doing one off jobs. myself, I can do it quicker manually on a mill and a lathe...just
my opinion...best of luck with it anyhoot :-) The combo machines are crap compared to one of each but i dont have 3-4k
to spend on the 'one of each' i would like  and for the piddly little jobs i would only likely end up
doing i think the larger of the combos like the 1200 dollar job i linked would be the shot...

Hi Danny,

these guys are from Brissie and have a really good reputation:

http://www.cnckits.com.au/index.php

No prices on the website, but I got quoted $3000 delivered, includes everything needed except the computer and software. Supposed to be bolt on.

These guys have a lower quality one for cheaper:

http://www.cncfusion.com/smallmill1.html

Kim, I agree with you about doing production to really make CNC pay, but I want to do things that aren't possible with the manual versions, 3d modelling, complex curves etc.

I'm not planning any production work at this stage, but who knows what the future holds ...

+1 on that Kim.
unless you are making many multiples of identical parts, CNC will never pay for itself.
Infact you have to use any machine tool a LOT for it to even begin to pay its keep over sub'ing jobs out to a machine shop.

This is just a hobby lads ... I don't run a car (thanks to my frockie :P ), and some people spend many times this on their car, so I don't consider it a cost that needs to be paid back, at least not in dollars and cents  8)

That's where I'm at Danny :)

Bought a rear wheel cheap bafang hub recently to tinker with.

Postby stripedtuna » Wed Nov 30, 2011 8:36 am

G'day everyone,

I'm Eddy, never seen an e-bike in real life, and i live in Canberra. The only motorised bike i had ever seen was some guy on a petrol powered one, flying past work, and it was pretty noisy, and blowing heaps of smoke.

I ride my bike to work every chance i can, but really hate the riding into a strong head wind. There are also some days where i just dont feel like cracking a sweat.

I used to be an electrician years ago, (forgot a lot of the motor thoery, but am sure it will come back to me) so even for the hobby factor, I cant wait to build myself an e-bike.

I started my first thread the other night, and am researching what to buy. I think i am nearly there for my first crack at it. Here is a link to the thread.

http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewto ... =3&t=34224

Anyway, glad to meet you all, and thanks in advance for all the knowledge you have all shared throughout this forum. I have read a fair bit now, but have a long way to go. Hope to keep up the chat with you all and share my experience in my future builds....

Cheers,

Ed.

Postby Architectonic » Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:27 pm

Hey guys, I'm Andrew, I'm 27 and from Adelaide. I've been mildly interested in ebikes for a while but considered them fairly expensive. I did end up buying one of those chinese foldable ebikes for $1000, but quickly returned it as it was rubbish (and I'm not even talking about being limited to 25km/h - the whole thing was poor quality).

But I no longer think $1000 is expensive for a decent kit, I've dusted off my hardtail from years back and it is still in good condition, so I'll probably start there.

Why am I interested in ebikes? I have been suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for years (tried many things to treat it to no avail). For those that don't know, CFS is basically an immune dysfunction syndrome, where the body produces an exaggerated inflammatory response for days even after moderate (mild for many of you young fit guys) activity. I am hopeful about the 'new' medical treatments being researched, eg This recent double blind RCT (link), but those sort of treatments aren't available in Australia yet.

Anyway, biking is one of the things I miss most. I was relatively fit when I was younger and I miss going on long rides. I also miss riding off road.

Hyena's ebike kits have definitely piqued my interest so now it is just a matter of sorting out the details.

Hey Kim, I may well take you up on that offer! I've prolly cooked it. 320 wind rear Mac motor with a 48v 40a controller. I was running it at 60v (15s) and at times it was seeing 55a on takeoff. Riding it for 15minutes or so at a steady 50-55kmh then it started cutting out on takeoff when amps were high. I'd roll throttle off then back on again very gently but it got steadily worse over a minute or so then it stopped working altogether.

Now it doesn't even attempt to turn. Resting amps are up a tiny bit from 0.03 to 0.06. I've checked all connections and they look fine. Only just bought the bike home tonight so will check it out on boxing day.

Hi to all Aussie e-bikers out there in the Land of Oz. I am a total newbie to e-bikes and this web site has an over whelming amount of information and sometimes I think my head will explode. I am Scott and live in sunny hot Mackay QLD. The reason for looking in to an e-bike is it would be so cool and our family only has one car. The best thing is I am starting from scratch. I have no bike but am eying one off. In my option it must be a full suspension bike. At this point of the build it must be a rear hub motor with Lipo4 batteries, what type and brand I have known idea. The whole setup must do at least 60 kph. The bike will be an on and off roader.
