Just had a play with the new ipad at lunch (one of my colleagues bought one) and the webpages are as readable as if they were printed on paper. Photos and videos are ok.

RaspberryPi would be perfect birthday present for my boy who just turned 7! We went to Toys R Us yesterday so he can pick out a cool toy but there weren't anything cool. I suggest a neat RC helicopter but we both knew he'd get bored of it quickly.. i want to give him a head start on programming, I hope the makers will produce program training software, like I did on the vic 20 copying game programs from a book.

Pi would be perfect for ebike battery monitoring using a small usb monitor, and a webcam as rear view mirror..

I don't gonna buy anything i as they is way overpriced for what you gets. Then again I am not easily swayed by the marketing swindlers either. It's really kind of sad how many have to have an i-phone, I-pad, certain car or brand of shoes ect to think they are up to date or ahead in some way when it's really all about how you serve those around you that counts.

I have my new 3rd gen iPad now, I picked it up on Friday when they were released.

Ended up getting the 32gb 4G model which gives me more room to upload photos when traveling. The screen is stunning as expected, 197x148mm with 2048x1536 pixels. The ability to play 1080p video displayed natively on something so portable is also sweet.

To set it up, all I had to do was connect to wifi, and it remotely downloaded a backed up copy of everything on my old iPad 2 from the iCloud servers.

The 5MP camera is surprisingly good although I can't imagine using it out of the house, except in desperation.

The extra weight & thickness do not detract from usability/portability and I'm happy to have a 70% bigger battery as a tradeoff. More lipo!

Got mine yesterday. Just the base model plus the camera connect kit. Spent a couple of hours in the stores trying all the other tablets..

Very intuitive to setup and use. Runs very smooth. Screen is superb. The text is much sharper than the pictures in the browser
Voice recognition is surprisingly accurate and fast, especially with my accent
They done well with the battery life too.
Rear-facing camera appears to be sharper than the ContourHD, not sure how useful it will be though.

whats the camera connect kit that sounds cool, i gotta give it to the ipad that they got much better musidc aps that is something i would actually consider getting these guys for because stuff like moog u just cant get on android and that really sucks cuz alot of those programs are really cool, however most ppl who own one of these will never really use these for more than just an impressive facebook machine, i cant say the same about android bc theres not too many out but im sure it would also be the same situation, and also alot of the big names especially for music stuff release in apple and wont release on android which is a shame bc some of those apps are amazing, i use my tablet as a general purpose device as im still getting the hang of using the apps and ill probably stick to android pads for now since i dont have much time to play around with a tablet anyway, but if i had more time and got more serious about something like music i would consider an ipad for the apps alone, thats still an advantage they got over android, i just stay away cuz of all their built in obsolence i mean if i pay $500 i expect the best, but seeing how they pulled another no cam on ipad 1, no SD card slot, no removable battery, and only gave 256 of ram that was a pretty messed up move to try and rip customers off for christmas and then release the decent one 3 months later or something like that, really ipad 2 should of been the first ipad and ipad3 is probably the one to get to last u a while (4 cores) but since im more prone to dropping it id rather risk it with a $100-200 device than a $500 one, plus the aspect ratio is kinda lame id like it to be a bit more widescreen / longer, getting back to the battery since everyone here's familiar with lipo, would you guys try replacing one of these yourselves or adding some bullet connectors and make it replaceable?

I was one of those clowns that was in the line up the morning of March 16.

Not because I wanted to but because one of my staff members was leaving and she always wanted an iPad.

Standing in the line up I got a little peved because I realised that all this waiting and I can't even play with it when I get back to the office due to it being a gift for someone. So I did what any other person in the same situation would do.... Buy two.

I had the iPad 1 and side by side I can tell you the screen on the iPad 3 5hits all over it. Even along side a workmates iPad 2, it's chalk and cheese.

I got the 32 gb 4g one, don't see the point of having a mobile tablet that you have to constantly be hunting for wifi points in order to use it. It's been funny watching the android crew slamming it though because here in Australia our 4g network is... well... primitive... Unfortunately due to us being behind the times, we still have the Analogue TV network here, which is using the 800mhz spectrum that the iPad uses for 4g. Hopefully the government speeds up its canning of it so telco's can start putting up towers in that range.

But all in all, upgrade from a 1 - 3, yes worth it i believe. 2 - 3 not so much. Battery life is fantastic, screen is just awesome.

Missed this thread - I preordered mine. Love the new ultimate resolution screen, I was disappointed to find that I still couldn't run facetime over LTE, so I am keeping my LTE hotspot for that purpose. Ipad is rapidly carving out a preferred-device niche between my laptop and iPhone.
