TOTW Suggestion (Totally Off The Wall)

Postby salty9 » Thu Aug 09, 2012 12:03 pm

I have noticed that many cyclists need to move their cycles upstairs. This made me wonder whether or not a bike controller could be programmed to operate in "stair" mode. As I see it the bike would be guided and the throttle blipped for each step. Of course really good cyclists would ride up the Stairs :D

What is the issue ?? ...I already "walk" my Ebike up stairs using a normal controller and thumb throttle. ?

Some controllers, like the latest Fusin one I'm testing/reviewing, can operate in "walk" mode to power the bike at walking speed without you having to deal with a throttle. I think on mine you just hold down the buttons for "a while" (10-20 seconds? I forget--have to retry that sometime) and then it sets the throttle automatically at a really low speed. IIRC moving the actual throttle or hitting the ebrake turns it off. Have to recheck that, too.

If you're using a Xiechang controller ("Infineon", Keywin, E-Crazyman, Lyen, some Crystalyte etc) then this is easy. Just programme the lowest speed in the controller for something like 10% and add a switch to ground terminal X1 on the board to select this mode. When the switch is selected the controller will then only go to a maximum of about 10% of maximum speed with the throttle wide open.
Please ask questions on the forum, rather than by PM, as it helps others and you'll get a better range of answers.

Ahh ! , I guess this is another advantage of a mid drive.
Select low gear, and simply "tickle" the throttle for stair climbing on an unmodded $20 controller 8)
