He's also got a charger that he says will charge a 36V 10AH pack in 20 mins. If you know of anyone else who can do that then I'd like to know. A bit of competition here might help with the price issue. Oh and then there's the safety cert. and ROHS.

You could marry the Lifebatt charger to A123 cells from Dewalt powertool packs. A 36v 10ah pack of A123's (10s5p or 11s5p -- whatever number in series is the same as the Lifebatt 36v pack) -- would require 5 or 6 Dewalt packs (10s1p), about $500-$600 on Fleabay.

They'll take a 15 minute charge too.

sorry xyster, thouhgt of that but he's not advertising the quick charger seperately, its built into the pack I think. Looks like we'll have to design our own, 'cept thats way beyond my capabilities. :( Also I think part of the ability to do the quick charge (without loss of life cycles BTW) is the low cell count made possible by the bigger cells.

Harder than design charger will be keeping cells cool at so high charging rate. So if LifeBatt cell are really withstand 1500+ charging at 3C rate in real conditions maybe they are worth their price at least for that who need fast recharing few times a day.
This way smaller pack will be able to serve for the same or longer range as much bigger pack with execption for short charging breaks.

Cool. Looks like you got out of the kimchi temporarily.

Give us a report on the usage of e-bikes there.

Ebikes in China

Postby Deepkimchi » Wed Aug 15, 2007 3:37 pm

Did a lot of time on the tour bus, but kept my eye out for e-bikes. Couldn't get it out of my system.

This is just for Beijing: In some areas it seemed like about 1 out of 5 were ebikes, all rear hub motors.

In other poorer sections it was about 1 in 20. Yeah, I'm crazy enough to count.

Didn't see any the size of the Xlyte 5 series.

Stayed rather busy, but tried to buy a 240 W rear motor, thru the bus driver contacting one place near the Temple of Heaven.

Store was wanting 380 Yuan ($53) for a 240 W brush motor. I was about to buy it, but then got to thinking, rats, need to get the spokes in case its a nonstandard size. Then I asked how much a controller and throttle would be for the motor. He said the system, w/o battery would be aboutY 900 = $ 150. For me seemed like I had seen internet prices for small brushed systems being about the same.

Decided not to get it. One thing that bothered me was the motor looked brand new, but the 2 wires from the casing looked old. They had brought the stuff to us, wish I would have been in a shop where I could bargain a little.

You might consider avoiding any motors that say MATTEL...

...or at least avoid licking them.
