A123 20Ah cells price down to 17.50$ per cells?

Postby Doctorbass » Mon Feb 13, 2012 12:20 am

I just watched one of the Jack Richard video tonight and he said that apparently these pouches price droped to 17.50$ !!

that's less than 9$ per 10Ah for 22 real C rate he measured from these "rejected cells?"

way cheaper than the 38120HP headway!

but .. yes it all depend on the shipping price.
I did not heard correctly what the supplier name is i his video :?

Cellman.. any updates?

At that price, it is probably sloppy seconds. That is way too low to pay for a well-functioning cell of any chemistry.
If A123 could make cells that cheap, they'd have the battery world by the nuts.

My guess is that supply is limited.

Jack claims to get 19.5Ahr (1C discharge) consistently from these cells. I think he gets them from

Woo Hoo! that data proves they are just as good as Ping cells. I suppose reject A123 would work fine if you only need 1c.

Data for 5-10 c would be more interesting.

The price is definitely amazing, but what does reject cells really mean? It might not be worth the trouble...

I don't know why this a123 20ah is so cheap, I never bought 20ah at that price, you know after I bought 26 pieces 20ah per $38.49 at http://www.a123rc.com/goods-468-Excitin ... CELLS.html, yesterday found the price changed to $32.11, the price change unpredictably.I still don't believe the price can down to $17.5 per cell.

I contacted victpower..
They told me 100 pcs are $18.70 per and close to $450 shipping from china to USA..
that's $2,331 including shipping or $23.31 per cell..
And that's IF they are the "good" cells, which I'm not too sure that they are in fact the 20C capable ones..

I think they made them for the pos fisker that was rushed to market but still 3 months late to receive the next gov loan installment so a123 is frocked since they only have a few big customers

now they gotta dump em out the back door to keep the contract manufacturer from going rogue

Reject cells usually have the tabs cut off

Those guys are pure talent, it is not that easy to stretch 15 min worth of useful information to 2+hours talk. :D

Cells got cheaper then buying LiPo from HK. Little work required but cycle life makes it worth. Cool

I've found the vids useful. When I have trouble getting to sleep, instead of more drugs, I use EVTV Motor Verks' (the Jack only ones) videos. You'll notice his voice has a pause-talk-pause rhythm that's soothing. And I figure there's a possible added benefit in that maybe some of the content will sink in through my semi-consciousness.

Yeah, his videos are so drawn out and boring I've never made it to the point were something useful comes out....not saying its not there, I just click away after suffering thru 5 minutes of verbal masterbation. On a positive note, he does put his findings out there.

Head scratching here.

Did someone in the motorcycle forum mention 2012 zero motorcycle batteries will be available to us?

I don't mean the cells, but the entire module plus charger.

I've got an electric car project going, and still undecided.

There is always a trade off with what's available, what's safe, and what's affordable.

I agree EVTV is just plain boring. Can use quite a bit of editing.

So it is not coincidence I got so sleepy at 10min of the video. Nice alternative to sleeping pill, bookmarked! The video is informative but only way for me enjoy all the info is running it in second plane, while being around, doing something else.

Because I'm clueless...
What's the Voltage and Ah of that battery pack?
What C-rates is it capable of?
How long is recharge time?
Weight? Etc?

Edit: I found out it's only the 3kwh pack..

For that price I can make an 84v 52Ah (4.2kwh) battery out of NMC cells with a BMS and charger..
Ok, only capable of 100a at 84v and approx 54lbs.. But hey.. That's just me.
