I am in the market for a new lab power supply and see some really good reviews for the Gopher units. The one I really would like to get is there CPS-6017 ($187 Shipped) which is a 60v 17a unit but is only 240v EU. I use my current one as a charger occasionally with an ideal diode circuit as protection. Here is the one I am considering.

While I should install 240v at my work bench that is a little more than I wanted to do this round, so it got me to thinking about modifying the power supply.

If I am not mistaken I could just make a simple pre rectifier/voltage doubler like the one below and have that dump into the power supply unmodified. This would make the charger essential believe it was getting 240v power and run beautifully.

So poke some holes in the plan before I buy a $200 power supply and decide to blow it up doing something stupid.
