Putting Ping Batteries in Series

Currently I have a 48V 20AH ping battery, I've been wondering how I can possibly put this into a series if I get a 24V 20AH. I heard that people are using diodes, but even after trying to look it up online, I'm not quite sure how to obtain the appropriate diodes, and I'm not sure which diodes i need for this purpose. Can anyone point me to where I might be able to buy what I need? Do the diodes hook up between the + and - outputs of each battery? Any suggestions for hooking up these batteries in series would be greatly appreciated.

oo Thanks, didn't know they were named like that, Do you know if when i get that, do i plug the + of the battery into Pin 3 and the negative to the Pin 1? http://www.diodes.com/datasheets/sbr/SBR40U100.pdf I do that for both batteries, and then run a separate cable to series em?

No - for this part, you want to put the + of the battery to pin 2 and then the - of the battery to pin 1 and pin 3 tied together. This puts 2 diodes in parallel with your battery and keeps both diodes reverse-biased (turned off) during normal use - No reason to waste one of the diodes. The diodes need to be reverse-biased during normal use so they don't short out your battery.

You're correct about repeating this for the other series battery and running the cable between batteries to put them in series.
