Hi guys,

So I'm looking to finally by a balance charger (still deciding on which one to get) and I'm also looking to buy 2 Dell Poweredge 2850 PSUs to power the charger.

Can anyone tell the difference between these:

Or is there any difference that would affect my decision?

Cheers.... no onwards with the balance charger selection!

Probably just a slightly different revision for a different server version at a guess, but physically they look pretty much the same, and as long as they both have the same power output it doesn't really matter what they look like.

By the way why dont you just get one big one ?, iv got an HP 3000W server power supply for my Adaptto Max-E controller, I only need one of those.

Cheers for the post. I will surely have a look for 1 big PSU. I was just looking for Dell Poweredge 2850 PSUs as they come highly recommended by ES members.

Hard to find in Ireland though.

Thats what I have, I found a few on there in the UK a few months back :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=Hp+esp120&_sop=15

There are loads of wiring guides kicking around the internet for them, as they are used in RC stuff.

Solder / jumper the three pins on the left together, then just solder the cables on and job done. I used a glue gun on the cables / terminals afterwards to make it all safe.

Looks good! Only shipping within UK though. I'll have a good hunt around.

Thanks though! Am thinking of going Adaptto Mini-E soon so I assume it'll work well with that too :)

Are the 3000W HP power supplies 24V? the ones I could find were all 48V, which would not be compatible with many RC Balance chargers.

If you are bulk charging with them, perhaps not an issue.

The Dell PE-2850 PS's are pretty cheap, too. I can find them locally for ~$15 each.

Oh to live in the states! $15!

I use 2 dell 1850's in series for 24v to drive icharger at 350watts, it won't reach its rated 350 watts with only 12v input. I recently bought them here

and this is how I use them

Do you guys have PC recycling stores or used computer parts stores in AUS? I would check there, if you do.

Not sure about AUS but they don't really exist here in Ireland anymore. There are 2nd hand sale sites and you just have to keep an eye on them to see if what you want pops up. 2 Dell 2850 PSUs just sold 2 weeks ago for example... Otherwise we really have to buy from ebay UK and pay for shipping...
