Building a 48v lithium battery for my ebike, questions.

Ok so looks like it will be cheapest for me to build my own 20ah lithium battery, got the idea from this fella

As he has done, i plan on using laptop battery pack cells to do it, does anyone have a good cheap source of these batteries? I have found people selling 12 cell laptop batteries very cheap new, but I am a bit worried there is a lot of shit on ebay, particularly with fake batteries.

Can anyone recommend?

However, if you intend on pulling more than 1C continuous, you should really consider Power Tool batteries like the Konions that Doctorbass sells:

Or just get some new quality high-power cells like the brand new Samsung 25R Cells.

you always can tell, that anyone who calls themselves 'genius' on utube is really insane.

could not continue when he got out that huge soldering iron for making leaded glass windows in order to solder nails to the spot welded straps.

you can see in the background that he actually has real copper wire he could use, but instead is using steel for the conductor. just imagine that if he did not think he was genius and instead decided he needed to just learn new stuff like any ordinary dufous.

then to think that all these other people will build up lipo can packs with no understanding of what they are doing. really puts a bad taste in your mouth when you see this stuff. like the izip thread. debasing of the value of knowledge imo.

If you are in North America, just PM Doctorbass and get yourself on the queue for makita packs. You can build your 48V 20Ah battery for under $350US; it will handle 40A+ discharge and last much longer than an overstressed laptop battery build.

The funny thing is that I remember watching that video when I first began researching ebikes. And actually built a recycled Laptop cell battery. It ultimately ended up in a 450W Stand-up scooter for my daughter. It was gutless. And I spent months testing all the cells, building the pack to be "balanced", soldering- (Not using nails, but actual copper wire.). It was a ROYAL PITA, for a crappy battery.
