Hi,
can somebody smarter explain, what kind of motor is this? It has connector with 3 fatter wires - these are phase wires. But only 3 wires for halls instead of 5?

What controller it needs? Sensorless?

question 2) does motors have any difference if motor says 250W, 350W, 500W - probably only difference is code and for what voltage and wheel size its turn count is optimized?
Maybe phase wires are smaller if it is meant for 250W. Controller (max amps) and voltage should be thing that defines power anyway? Motor defines only KV?

It's a standard Bafang BPM2 code 13 with a DNP free-wheel attached. The three small pins in the connector indicate sensorless, but with a separate speed sensor, which is necessary because of the internal free-wheel.

You'll struggle to find a matching connector unless it comes with the lead to the controller, which is unlikely for a used one. You can always cut its connector off and solder wires directly.

BPMs can run OK sensorless. Code 13 is about 239 rpm, so about 30 km/h max on the road at 36v.

Yes, it should go pretty well with a 48v battery. 40km/h just about matches its power. You want a 30A sensorless controller if you have steep hills and you're heavy. If you're light and/or don't have many hills 20A should be enough. Some controllers, like the KU123 from BMSBattery are dual mode sensor/sensorless with automatic detection.
