sunstar s03

I tried one last week. It's about equivalent in power to a cheapo 24v 250w Chinese hub-motor, but should be able to climb slightly better. I only had a chance to test it on the flat. It has a sudden cut-off at 15mph, whih felt like a connection fault, so that it was switched off above 15 mph, and the moment you got below 15mph, the power came back on. I spoke with the designer and he confirmed that if you took the magnet sensor off the back wheel, it would still work but without speed limit, which would solve that. It's Japanese and been on sale for a couple of years so should be OK, but it didn't feel as refined as a Bosch or Panasonic motor.
I see the best application for a light-weight folder or hybrid because the overall system is very light, but not very powerful.
The designer's working on a more powerful 36v version.
