Y-pedal's two stage RC drive..........

Postby recumpence » Wed Mar 25, 2009 4:02 pm

Hey Guys,

This is a drive I just finished for Y-pedal. This is the first completed two stage drive (all others have been single stage).

You can see it is 7and 1/2 inches long and 5 inches high when folded up. Layed out, it is 11 inches long.

The entire drive pretty much fits in my hand (a little bigger than that). The Astro fits my drive so perfectly well. I am very pleased with this.

Overall ratio is roughly 10 to 1.

Anyway, I figured you guys would get a kick out of seeing a completed two stage drive. :D

So, Y-pedal, I am leaving on vacation tomorrow. Maybe I can make it to the post office to ship this, maybe I will have to ship it Tuesday.

Matt

That looks better than the single stagers, IMHO. But Y does Ypedal need two stages when everyone else is running one with the same motor?

Oh, I hope Ypedal sends Matt the PM, next tuesday is sooo far away. Where is he? I can't watch this anymore. :-)

The main reason/s most people have opted for single stage is two fold;

#1 Cost. The dual stage is almost twice as much as the single stage.

#2 Efficiency and weight. The dual stage drive loses a few percent efficiency.

Y-pedal wanted teh two stage so he could run a higher KV motor and still have the reduction he wanted without a huge sprocket at the rear wheel. With dual stage, you can run a relatively small rear sprocket.

Also, I think he wanted the cool factor. 8)

very nice

That Astro does tuck in the concave arm nicely.

Matt, who supplied the threaded (assuming sprocket thread) output? Ypedal?

Hey Man,

I just commented on your thread. :D

I had those freewheel adaptors made up. I have dozens of them. Would you like one? I have them in aluminum and steel.

They are 1/2 inch bore, dual set screw style.

Beautiful!!! I love how it can have it's layout adjusted, it's so well done! Beautiful!

Yeah !!! :D :D :D :D :D :D

That thing looks incredible ! even better than i imagined .. the black and silver turned out perfectly !

This bad boy will drive a NuVinci hub in a 20" Sunrims Rhyno Lite, this should give me a nice wide range with really good low speed grunt.

Next item on my list is the HV controller..

Thank you Matt !!! lookin amazing.. if it works half as good as it looks.. watch out !

Good question.. I'm not 100% sure yet.. IF it just fits in the Norco swingarm that's where it goes.. but otherwise it may end up in a chopper frame or possibly a KMX trike...
