HUB motor comparison

Postby scooter2012 » Sun Aug 19, 2012 1:13 pm

I'm wondering about how hub motors compare...specifically the BMC V2, V3 and V4 (rear) hub motors. I want power more than speed but mainly I want a motor that doesn't die. Any opinions out there?
Thanks all.

Bmc all are gears motor. my believe is a Non - gear motor will be more reliable and much harder to die. The simple HUb motor without gear doesn't show it weakness in power and troque . It has good power, pick up, speed. i think my hub motor of 48v 1000w is hard to die, no worry of gears has expired and need to replace the internal gears.

ken
Conhis hub motor run on April 2010, 48v 1000watts hub motor distance run 5800km, and Re~alive cyclone kit bought in year 2009, Bought a greentime controller 18fets- 4110 , 48v~ 90v , 3-speed mode. Latest top speed I got for my greentime controller 76.8km/h ! , yet to reach 80km/h, or I will never reached 80km/h ?

I ran my V2s at 66V and 20- 25A with 6K on and off road with no failure, although I did upgrade the wires and gears to near the newer V3 standard, and 1K on another V2T at the same voltage and amperage. So up to the 1600-1800W levels these seem to hold up fine. The V3 motors have a low wind count and are harder on controllers. This link might answer some of your questions. http://www.electricbike.com/bmc-hub-motor-review/ but remember the V2 comes in the S=speed and T=torque versions. Heat is your enemy with these motors if you design and ride with that thought they will last. edit a little more info here http://www.sdelectricbike.com/BMC_MAC_BAFANGhtml.html

I had a v4 that burned out and am trying to figure out whether to replace it with a new V4, a V3 or the older V2.
I figure new, improved is better (?)

If I had to recommend a motor, right now, gun to my head, I would say the 1000w Mac Geared from cell_man.

1. Lightweight.

2. Powerful.

3. Robust.

4. Not too expensive, and not unique either. Plenty of after-sales support, plenty of build-threads, plenty of do-and-don'ts
