Should Girlfriends be un-sprung weight?

My girlfriend wants me to take her to the park that I like to Ebike at. While I ride the trails she will sit on a bench and read or whatever it is she does.

She is short (4'10" 85lb). If I make a rack that clears my rear wheels suspension travel it will be way too tall.

I am thinking of designing a rack (passenger seat) that is hard mounted to my swing arm

Good idea?

bad idea. Better to get a trailer for the GF or put her on your lap for... other activities while you drive... :p

What is the video about? Yout*b* is blocked here :(

Oh right. It wasn't a very serious response. It is a video of two people cycling a normal bicycle that has customised twin saddles and twin pedals (like something off a pedal boat). Sort of a sociable bicycle.

I don't think it would work for you though as the weight disparity would cause balance problems.

I can't think if it was my cst or the bpm, but one had a 75kg load rating. Making it unsuitable for one person, never mind two. You may want to look up your own motors abilities

I have carried mine on the rear rack on my Demo 8, padded with a rolled jean jacket, and she is much bigger than yours.
Just ride slowly and try to avoid potholes, she'll be fine if the ride is not too long.

Its pretty common in the eastern cities to sit side ways on the rack, just don't forget she's there and peg your throttle on a corner.

I didn't know girlfriends came THAT small.

You just need to look in Asia. Here is a picture for reference. I am 35, 6'1", 175lbs, wife is 39, 5'0, 95lbs

The one on the left is my wife. The girl on the right is our friend, 24yrs old, <100lbs, she married an american too. If you like small girls check out Asia they are everywhere. Mexico has some petite girls as well.

BTW, build a second bike for her, its what I did for my wife. Bike is a kids full susp all steel kids 20" wheels. She loves it and it fits her very well. Its a bonus if she will build it with you. Mine loves to work with me and had me teach her how to build her own 6 fet controller. That might be pushing it, but you never know, especially if your girl is not a girly girl.

how about just building her an ebike of her own.. 8) .. would not need to be as elaborate as yours, she could then ride with you, instead of sitting on a tiny rear rack( scary.. )

Zombiess & Ypedal.. I was looking forward to building my girlfriend an E-bike. But after I got mine on the road here we realized that it would not be a good idea. We are in a super densely populated area and cars drive crazy here. When I ride on the streets I am in 100% defense mode all the time. My girlfriend would probably be riding her E-bike while daydreaming about her mothers home cooking or something (don't tell her I said that :| ). She is enrolled in a drivers license course. She should have hers in 6 months or less. Ill feel safer having her in a car. We already bought her a pillow designed for her to sit on so she can see over the dash board  .

BTW, My GF is not the "build an E-Bike" type, but she makes an awsome pizza

I'm sorry but pizza is made with reduced down pomodori pelati, not with sauce from a jar.

Have you thought about mounting a saddle on the top tube :) ?

Im pretty sure Ragu is made from reduced down pomodori pelati, but I get your point. I am just happy that I can get pizza sauce at all. I get it from Alibaba's taobao. Actually that is where I get almost all my food. I have asked my GF if she would make pizza and pasta sauce from whole tomatoes if I taught her and she agreed. I just need to figure out how to make it myself first.

As for the top tube saddle, I'm going to look into that. Thanks!

I use Tomato PASTE, comes in small cans, already cooked down. Then add a LITTLE water, to thin it just a little, add spices of your choice + cheese and meat, if desired.

shenzhen_ex, are you a Gwai Lo? 鬼佬

I met my wife in Hong Kong and know a little Cantonese from traveling there and Macao quite often. Haven't been to Shenzen yet though, but I want to since there are so many toys to buy there.

Yes, Im an expat from good ol' USA. I have been here almost 8 years. I go to Hong Kong at least once per month, It only takes about an hour to get there. Went to Macao once to check out the casinos  . I can speak fluent standard Chinese just from having been here so long, but I can say little more than "Please give me a beer" in Cantonese.

Welcome to the concrete jungle [Shenzhen, China]!

Get a bike designed for carrying a passenger....

I just spent more for my current E-Bike than her parents earn in 1 year (before I started helping them out that is). If i got another bike just because it is better suited for passengers I would not need it because she would break-up with me :( .

Not really, but she would be convinced I was crazy  .

Reminds me of that tshirt some of the bikers wear - "If you can read this - she fell off!"

What about these passenger type pegs, if it's just a short distance she probably won't mind and she'll get a view of where you go
