Panniers on a back rack and big feet :-)

Postby msconana » Wed May 09, 2007 4:57 pm

Does anyone have problems with the backs of their feet hitting their panniers on a frame mounted rear rack? On the seat post mounted rack I have now I have to raise it up towards the seat so my feet don't hit the panniers.

I'm 5'7" and I have size 10 feet--yes, they're big but it's not like I can go skiing without skis or anything! :-) Most men have bigger feet than I do--have any of you experienced this? Did you buy a certain type of rear rack to fix it?

Size TEN! Talk about gunboats...

heh heh, just kidding. :)

Sure, I bump into my baskets on occasion. But, I ride a dorky little kid's bike... the baskets are practically under my ass.

Your panniers should be clear of your feet. You had them prior to the trek?

:)

Haha, very funny ;-) They stayed a 'normal' size 9 for years when I was wearing heels but once I was in a position to stop, believe me I did! Sneakers from that point on but then...omg...the horror began...my feet grew! ACK!

I bought the panniers/seat post rack combo for the Trek. My seat is probably about 10-12" up and now that I've been really looking at the bike I'm beginning to think that a 16.5" frame is a little small for me at 5'7". Oh well.

I also use cages on my pedals so that could have something to do with it too--my feet are back further than some probably. Maybe I should take my clipless pedals off my road bike and move them over to my Trek...no, not really...I don't want to clip clop down the grocery store aisles. lol those shoes are such a fashion statement!

Is is possible to tilt them at an angle to avoid your heels... Devin's X5 beast has this type of setup ..
