dimpirate wrote:So I installed docs TA's last night used dp420 followed docs instructions from this thread, everything worked out great motor axle fits beautifully!
I fu$&ed one thing up though on derailleur side here's a picture

torque arm.jpg

Pic is taken close up its about 3mm off... I placed with hub motor on thought I had it in place, couldn't see it though damn :? (TA's inside dropouts)
Like I said alignment is perfect, what do you guys think I should do about this, should I even worry, since most of the axle movement is from side to side. I'll also be using nor lock washers. these are aluminum dropouts...
Would you recommend putting dp420 in gap?
Any suggestions?

Thanks
Fred

Hello Fred,

I see the translation you have in your alingment. no need to fill the gap with epoxy. your axel will sit ok your aluminum dropout and it's on. The torque arm will take the side to side torque no prob  .

The far the axel is from thecenter, the more the torque arm will receive force ( lever effect), but these are so strong that you could have had 10mm off and they would have take the load no prob 8)

I made them overkill to be able to compensate for these kind of error

enjoy your new build!

Hi Doc, and any other readers.
I have a Shimano Derailleur with a hanger bolt like this:
shimano_b1a020fa8e1b5bda7ad9912fcb72854f.jpg
shimano_b1a020fa8e1b5bda7ad9912fcb72854f.jpg (5.93 KiB) Viewed 621 times

It's not long enough to go through the torque plate and frame. Here is a pic of where i want to put the torque plate:
torque_bike.jpg
torque_bike.jpg (140.91 KiB) Viewed 621 times

Basically I think I need a longer bolt, but it's a strange Shimano bolt as you can see, with a thicker section near the head.
Just wondered if anyone had any ideas what to do here?

Ok, another plan would be to use one of the smaller bolt holes in the frame that are for the rear pannier. As per this pic:
pannier_hole.JPG
pannier_hole.JPG (96.92 KiB) Viewed 610 times

Unfortunately the diameter of these holes is only about 5mm, not 10mm. But I could use a smaller bolt and maybe some sort of sleeve inside the torque plate hole?
Also the torque plate doesn't quite fully overlap with the pannier hole :-(
Grateful for any opinions.

Maybe it's possible for that kind of interference to just grind the area in conflict?

I got a pair! Great piece.

Wish it would of fit, but the axle was too short.
So now I need to build a swing arm around the plates.

I didn't think Aluminum was as bad as it turned out to be.
I put 1k plus miles with a Cute 128 and 6" disc, I just had to have more!
Mac 8t on 15s LiPo 60 amp 12fet controller, with a 8" disc. Didn't last long. About a block. At least it was a short walk home.

Maybe i have a suggestion for you that would save money and make it stronger than before while you'll be able to use the torque arms

I took few minutes with Windows Paint

As well i forgot to add the area for the disk brake and upper swing arm lever but it's easy with an 1/8 steel plate and few home tools

Thanks Doc!
Great idea.
I wanted to use the plates in a new build, talked to a friend and he wants to build a complete new swing arm from 4130. All I want is to fix it, but he wants it to pass a FAA inspection.

So now I have a bridgeport band saw large drill priss and more to use. And I had it all figured out simple, but sibce I can't see to weld anymore I needed help. Boy did I get help. Let you all know how it comes out.

Doc, I think those things are great!

Hey Doc, just wanted to let you know I got the second pair. Now these are the perfect dropouts for my new swing arm if I don't have the fabricator use some bar stock and do a clamp style. I use them as dropouts on on my current bike, clearance was snug then some blue loctite on the nuts and now I have no worries.

For those who would like to make some holes i these great STRONG torque arms, just be advised that you will need QUALITY drill bit!.. There is no way a wood drill or cheap brand but will work.

An exemple:

Image

Best is using a pressdrill and quality drill bit.

Dont know if you've solved this, but I had the same issue setting up myntrikes deraileur with these arms. If you mount the deraileur to the torque arm ( wont go through the frame), you can then use the deraileur adjustment to get it shifting again, even though its now 10mm further out.
Hope that helps!

Yes, pretty well.

really similar strengh as the 420, but the 460 have 60 minute work life and is optimized for magnet bonding.

Hello Mike,

I'm sorry that you did not received them, and i guess they was maybe lost in the mail or that i could have made a mistake and have sent them to another member adress.

No worrie, I will ship you another set right on monday.

I apologize for the inconvenience.

Here are some pic's with DRBASS torque arms. Thanks Doc these things are awsome!

And yes, I had to dremel the screw heads on the HS3540 to get the new Avid elixer 5 203mm rotors to not rub the caliper.(i need to touch up the grinds alittle)

The picture you showed give a real taste of how easy they can be mounted including the right side with the derailleur threaded hole that you seem to have used perfectly

excellent job!
