Hi Baruch,
Nice scooter. Is it running yet?
Where did you buy the motor? And where did you get the batteries?
You should checkout tncscooters.com, he ships to Israel (except for motors), and has good prices.
Did you have any problems with customs when you got these parts?
You should hook up a battery management system (BMS), or at least an LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) to protect your batteries.

I have many scooter parts, so if you need something urgently I can lend you the part until you order it from abroad.

I make mix between Black color with Metalic Silver, to create Dark metalic Gray.

Battery:
My cells are 16pcs of 15Ah Headway 40152. total 53V.
All the BMS are waste of money, not reliable, and do not do the work properly And with them you can get stuck in the middle of the road without a logical reason, and I do not want it to happen.
so, in order to save the life time of this cells, i need to add some components.
1)to balance cells, i was order 16 units of balance boards. it balance with 1400mA, (in BMS board it about 85mA to 150mA). the balance is only when i charge !.
2)to protect over discharge or short cells output, i add Fuse of 50A.
3) to protect low voltage, my controller cut the power off when the voltage is 41.5V, and for me, to know when my batteries are low, i add some device, from the RC toy world,
this device, for 8 cells, so i connected 2pcs, it can programmable, when voltage below then 2.7V, of some of cells. it start to make alarm.

Nice looking project. Your work has a very simple and well-thought-out sensibility to it. You must be an engineer of some type.

I'm very curious about several things but mostly how the suspension seat system functions. The idea of suspending the rider seems very logical on a small electric vehicle. I've thought about it for a long time but the only things out there seem to be the Thudbuster seatpost and a few others. Does the seat suspension depend on the rider having some weight on the footpegs as well? Does the weight of a passenger allow the suspension to still function well? What about when seated? I would love to know more about this system and how you designed it.

Some other things I'm curious about, what brand is the motor, what's the final weight of the whole thing.

I'm looking froward to learning more about this project and to see it run!

As an aficionado of bicycle history and technology (especially with respect to suspension and mountain bikes) I'm familiar with the Softride tech. The mountain bike model you show is an interesting comparison with this project. Its twin parallelogram beams and pivots seems like it would do a good job of maintaining a level seat throughout the range of travel, perhaps at somewhat of a penalty in terms of complexity compared to their more common flexible carbon beam.

There really was great spirit of innovation in the mountain bike industry in the early '90s. Alas, Softride has gone the way of the dodo but interestingly their demise has enabled TitanFlex, a former competitor who was unable to make a similar product due to legal issues, to get back in the game with a beam type of frame.

Hello all,

The seat suspending function well, with 1 passenger or two, it easy to set the suspension pressure.

the motor is brushless 48V 900-1000W, i got peak 1990W on my Digital meter. on acceleration about 1400-1600W (28-32A),
on about 25KM/h (15MPH) trip average with 2 passangers the motor draw about 7.3-7.6Ah.
it have amazing climbing ability, thanks to the CVT transmission, (first gear on the CVT gives about 13Km/h on full motor RPM, so it have alot of torque)

The maximum top speed got about 44Km/h(26.4 MPH) with two passengers.

trip travel until the battery on 20%, is about 2-2.5 Hours is ride in the city. i dont have KM/Miles meter.

now i have AGM battery (Type of Lead acid), 12V@20Ah x4. (the lifepo4 is out of using - lot of problem cause big problem - different story).

the scooter is very heavy. it about 55KG, me 90KG, and my friend 60KG, so total we have about 200KG

Hi Astro,
This looks good.
You should ditch the lead-acid battery and use the Headways.
I use RC Lipos in my scooter, and do not use any kind of BMS. Just monitor each battery voltage using voltage monitor:

You can charge the battery with Lipo charges that can also charge LiFe and SLA.

my luck that my neighbors woke me up.

According to my calculations, you are carrying 24Kg of lead on your bike.
The same battery capacity in LiPo would only weigh 6.3Kg:

Hallo Dave,

this LiPo have no more then 500 cycles lifetime, Lifepo4 is much better for long run, and cost only 10-15%.

LiFe is maybe only 10-15% heavier, but it cost 2-3 times as much as LiPo. 500 Charges is a lot, if you charge once every 2-3 days it will last 3-4 years.
I'm sure that if you treat the LiPo right then you can get many more charges.
There are many more LiPo batteries manufactured than LiFe, and they are getting better all the time.

1 Headway cell of 3.3V 15Ah, cost 20USD, it 2.475W per 1$
the Lipo that you show me it the most cheapest on HobbyKing, other Li-Poly battery cost 20-30% Higher,

but it i compare the deal that you show me, it 14.8V 5Ah, and cost 22.6USD, that is 3.27W per 1$.

so you need to pay 1.3 times more for LifePO4 compare to Li-Poly,
and get 4 times more lifetime and more safety technology.

and if we compare to average Li-poly battery cost, we can find 10-15% price different only.

now i happy with my AGM battery, i have 1 year so save money for Li-Poly or LifePO4, until the AGM will die. :)

Hi Astro,
First, the LiPo from HK costs 21.38$ (I am a platinum member :wink: ) so it is 3.46 Wh/$.
Why buy other LiPo, when you have this one?
Although according to numbers on the web LiFe can have over 1000 cycles, and Lipo 300-500, I am sure that this new generation of LiPo gets over 500 cycles.
LiFe and LiPo are much much better than AGM, because of the way they discharge.
AGM voltage starts to drop almost immediately, but LiPo keeps voltage of 3.7v and LiFe 3.2v for the entire discharge and then the voltage drops almost immediately.
This means in SLA the spped gets slower all the time, but for lithium you get constant speed until the end.
I had SLA on my scooter, then moved to LiPo. The difference is amazing. I will never go back to SLA.

Hi Astropower, that is a shame about the battery. You didn't had BMS right? Have you considered A123 cells? I have those on my scooter and so far they are good. Using it with cellman's BMS. I have developed termination kit for A123 prismatic cells. I don't know if they would fit in your frame thou. 16S kit i make is 118x160x236 including battery. It would weigh 8kg, you would have 20AH. I would say that they are safer battery, check out my thread on abusing these cells:
