DC to DC Multi-Purpose Voltage Converter $14.98

Postby Lyen » Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:21 pm

This is for a nifty and versatile device I have been testing for the last few months. It is very easy to use, all you have to do is twist the knob on the bottom to your preferred output voltage. The DC-DC step down voltage converter has many uses mention below:
Image

When I am on the road, I personally use it on my electric bike to provide power the the LED flashlight and blinker from my 48v LifePO4 battery. I was able to power the 900 lumen Cree LED safely without the LED driver circuit board since the current output is identical. This way, I do not have to go through a series of flash modes from my flashlight. :)
Image

I sometimes use it to charge both Lipo and LifePO4 as a single cell battery and multiple battery cells in an emergency situation. In fact, I had to use it quite a few times to balance individual cells on my battery packs.
Image

I also use it to recharge my PDA phone by plug in via the 5v from USB port. I sometimes use the GPS function on the phone while riding on the road and have my phone draws power from the ebike battery this way. :)
Image

At home, I used it to down convert my laptop computer power supply to accompany with my RC charger in order to recharge my Lipo batteries. I am also able to power devices from my solar panels at home by simply adjust the DC-DC converter to the desire voltage. :)

Specification:
Model: QSKJ QS-4805CBD-3A

Hi NorCalTuna,

I think you can do that by simply attach a high voltage brush controller instead. :D

I just received my two and immediately put them to the test. They are way cool. I will be using one to determine the brightness of an led light vs voltage. I know some have a built in regulator but I don't think the old Cateye does. Then if it blows I can justify a Magicshine and use these to power it. The pot adjuster is very fine so you can be really accurate with the voltage setting. Thanks again Lyen.

Wow, very tempting, I might be buying one of these soon, too bad you don't have a larger version with a heat-sink and multiple out-puts.

I found out that the light is much brighter at 6V than at 3 volts so it's regulator must have some headroom. I gotta get more of those D/C to D/C things as I now only have one left. The first is permanently mounted to my wife's bike as the power source for her lights. Great little gadgets! Actually I could now change it out for a less versatile 6 volt charger from a wall wort! Hmmmmm. These are great test tools!

I got mine last week. I would be interested in seeing pictures of how you ran connections from the posts and how you have installed them on bikes. Did you put it in a project box, or what?? Lots of possibilities. It would be nice if the pins didn't go straight out from the back, say if they were bent @ 90 deg. angles to the side. I am tempted to try and bend them, but I don't want to frak up the converter.
