2 controllers with 1 Throttle ?

Postby Ypedal » Sun Oct 07, 2007 10:39 am

There is always the `` Try it and find out what happens `` aproach.. but with access to a group like this .. heck.. :P

Simple question: I want to run 2 Crystalyte 4 series motors from a single 48v battery pack. Using 2 x 20amp 48v Brushless controllers using Hall Type throttles.

Can i use a single throttle and run 2 seperate controllers without any special resistor, diode, flu shot, capacitor, recifier, indigestion, transformer, sprk plugs or other weird gimiks ?

:?: :D

Other conversations we've had on the topic of one throttle with two controllers indicated no extra electrical doohickeys were necessary.

No Problem!

I have done it to 2 bikes - two brushless (two controllers - one throttle) works great, no problems after 1000s of kms.

but wouldn't running two controllers mean that each controller sees half the restance? or something similar? ( i have no idea on how the throttles work and its very early)
Bike / Motor: Electric specalized rock hopper with Crystalyte 504 / 26"
Batt: Yesa 72v (36v*2) (getting 6.7ah) LiFEPO4 in a Topeak bag. OR 1x eMTB 48v 20ah pack (straps to frame) -depending on range requirements.
Controller: Unmodified 48a digital with 4110 Fets
Current Prob: Bike is in parts getting painted / drying / testing replacement BMS
Trail of Dead Parts:Avanti Frame, 408 motor *melted*, 35a controller - i broke by trying to mod it 2nd controller - blew it up.

the throttle input to the controller is high impedance so the throttle should have no problem providing voltage to two controllers at such a low current.

Yes, should be no problem.

I'd recommend attaching only the signal and ground wires from the 'second' controller throttle input. Connect all three from the first controller.

This way if the the +5v regulators are at a slightly different voltage there won't be a conflict, though it might not make any difference if there was.
