Nice make a home made studed rear tire for it also by screwing short screws from the inside of the tire.

Hi
that will work in the snow but the second you get them back on the tarmac you will have studs that disappear fast, those studs on my tyres were moulded into the tyre and are made of tungsten carbide, screwing in from the back with ordinary screws even stainless steel would just not work they would blunt or push back in and puncture the inner tube.

Some of the self taping screws are harder than heck. Even steel stud screws are very tough. You cut the stem off of an old tube and put it between the screws and your good tube. Run low pressure to reduce screws being driven back into the tube.

Hi
I can see your point but believe me the leaders in making studded tyres in the world would not use tungsten carbide if it was not needed, mine have just over 250 per tyre and there are some that have over 300. On the snow and ice steel/ stainless steel or most types of hard screw will not have a problem with going blunt it is if you leave the tyre on when you get onto Tarmac that the problems start. You need a stud that will not distroy itself on the road nothing less than tungsten carbide will do the job, check the web if you don't believe me there are no end of reviews between steel and tungsten carbide steel, the steel loose every time once you have to include snow free roads in the equation.
I leave my tyres on from the first signs of snow to start of march they get run on all surfaces, I never have to worry about slipping or the studs wearing out, I get 4 or 5 years out of one set of tyres that way, changing the tyres would be a pain in the rear if they could only be used on snow or ice.

Picture of home build ice trike with #6 3/8" screw plus washers 200 plus in the tire, tire pressure at 45 psi works great on the ice why not on the snow.

True it's only great in the snow and ice, in some provinces of Canada studed tire has to be removed from cars and cannot be used in summer time it will destroy the road. It makes a lot of grumbling sound without the snow on the road which attracts the local police attention.

Zenon;
Quit building works of art out of dumpster diving and doing other impossible stuff.
I have some skis here. If you need them, just ask and you can get back to sledding.

I love the videos but wonder when we will get some snow here in the Cold White North of Canada. If only these 8-9*C temperatures would go away, we would have a chance. We had to wet the lawn down so Santa could get up enough speed to take off the other night.

Hi Gordo,

Santa had a tough time taking off here also :) When i get a trailer i will put some ski on the trikes and take it to the local mountain where there is lots of snow.

This is all the snow we have here today and may melt at the end of the day. :(
