Count me in for a 5404 rear hub motor with disc mount. I live in Florida, but it may be more practical to have it shipped to JohnRobHolmes for him to lace to a rim I have yet to buy from him.

Regardless, count me in on one 5404 purchase.

Aussies, I was going to organise a buy of these 5404s too but had a bit of a bad taste left in my mouth after being screwed on the Hx35 order with dodgy wiring. It seems these wiring issues aren't isolated and as methods etc have said there's no guarantees or warranties with this sort of stuff out of China. The only vague upside to these issues is most of us that are looking at these sort of motors are gangsters who can probably fix wiring issues if they arise. It's still a PITA having to do this on a brand new motor though. I spent 2+ hrs this morning rewiring a DOA HS35 so again as a warning to other members who are looking to sell these for a profit, you need to factor all this in to your price. I should also declare a slight conflict of interest too I suppose as I sell things here occasionally too - although primarily as a fellow ES member delivering these goods where they're otherwise unavailable. Like Wojket is now taking the time to do for you all, so props to him. (you have an email too Wojtek)

So yeah, if it's not stepping on Wojteks toes Mr Asia might be able to facilitate things for our end. As also said we can expect delivery times to be huge so it might actually be worthwhile going with sea shipping. We'd probably need 10+ motors to make this a worthwhile venture though with all the added port and customs fees etc. The upside is it doesn't cost that much more when sending by sea to ship the motors laced, which saves alot of hassle at this end and over $100 once you source the rims, spokes and labour for lacing and truing.

Good news. You can make a specialty with that, and would be one very usefull resource of the sphere. I for one, will be glad to pay you good profit for supplying upgraded Clyte motors.

so as you can see from the previous post, shipping costs of one un-laced motorhub:
USA $236.00
Australia $198.00

I have asked for some upgrades that you guys mentioned and will see what response i get.

totally agree with Hyena, it may make more sense to order them laced via sea shipping. [if the quality of lacing and rim is good]

If Kenny is not up for upgrades, Farfle will have a lot of work to do :)

Yep, that hefty shipping price is why I suggested going by sea. I paid the premium last time (which wasn't quite as much on the lighter Hx motors) but it still still adds a fair bit to the bottom line. With these motors being more costly to start with + being heavier makes it less economical to send my air.

When he says he'll send door to door in lots of 10 he means to a single address - so you'd still have to redistribute them from a single address each country. This is what I had to do with my order.

I think we should push for the 135mm drop out spacing, or atleast have them made compatible so we can use a single speed freewheel if we want to fit them to a 135mm drop out. Having them made for 150mm spacing only would limit interest from members here I suspect.

Also is everyone aware of just how heavy these motors are ? They seriously weigh a tonne and dramatically affect the overall feel of the bike.

But it will difficult to make a small quantity of the axle with special length. because the axle process with CNC. So it is request the special length of the axle with min.50pcs quantity.
I will informed what is the axle we have stock for one sped freewheel.
When you have the order for one speed freewheel motor.

they are actually lighter than 53xx series. They weight 11kg, with rim and spokes 12.5kg. Please see lowracer thread with pictures of him weighting the motor.

i put some picture comparison here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=24805&hilit=crystalyte+5404&start=105

they are thicker.

I think Lowracer would be in position to advise if they could go down to 135mm with a compromise of 1speed freewheel? or anyone having any other idea?

just to clarify, 290USD is the price Kenny quoted me. It does not include any extra % for me. I am getting NOTHING from this deal.

All i want for my personal gain is to get his motor with modifications similar to what Lowracer did for which im happy to pay.. Maybe someone can do it for free for me if the deal will work out :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Depending on the reply from Kenny, and the overall quality of the motors when they get here, it may be cheaper for some members to ship them to me for mods first, I don't want to post my business details on your thread Wojtek, but if anyone has any questions feel free to shoot me a PM. I'd be down for shipping mine to Farfle; with his order of (6), that would bring the total to (7), close to the grouping of (10) we were discussing earlier for the cheaper shipping. After I he is finished molesting it, I'll probably have it sent to JohnRobHolmes for lacing.

whats the update on this group buy what controller would be good for this? wouldnt it make sense to also have them come with their controllers to atleast make the high shipping a bit better deal that way

btw differences between the 5404 vs 5303? i think i remember the 5303 having a bit faster winding?

For the 5400 series, either a 18, 24, 36-fet or a Kelly of some variety would work well. You could run them on an off the shelf Crystalyte controller but it would not be running anywhere near this motors potential.

Ok, I'm curious why Doctorbass wants a 5404 vs 5403 :?:

He's going to use this motor for a top speed record, right, so why go with a torque/slower speed wind :?: Or, is Doctorbass going to start drag racing or something :?: :shock:

Here are some questions I want to know answers to:

1) Please ask Kenny if he *currently* makes plenty of 5403 & 5404 already... maybe we can hook-on with a current production run to save time & money?

2) Have you dealt with Kenny very much or for very long :?: Do you know or believe you have a good relationship with Kenny now & in the past :?:

Btw, I certainly appreciate tremendously your help... :D my questions "above" are not critical of you by any means. Also, Maxwell has told me he is a shipping expert, so maybe Maxwell could help up out somehow too for North America :?:

3) I want mine shipped by sea, since it will be far cheaper... Also, there is some confusion if Kenny will ship to individual addresses or does he ship 10 to one country's single address? Ask Kenny if he can ship the order all at once by sea, saving him a hassle by using a sea shipping consolidator (or postal service), but still ship to individual addresses when he does the order shipment. This could be a big bonus saving time & extra shipping & each motor could be considered a sample doing it that way... this would avoid duty fees & delays in customs too.

4) I will throw out ilia's name too, since I asked him if he might want to offer these 5400 motors too. He said he might be interested several weeks ago, but he had no timetable to do it. Maybe he would now?

Anyway, thank you sincerely Wojtek for helping out of your own good nature. That is very kindhearted of you to do so... You are a great guy too! :mrgreen:

Thanks :!: :D

The value in buying from Methods or Justin is they take the grief when things go bad, and they do. For instance I got a batch of motors and when I say a batch I mean a container of motor in which the wrong epoxy was used EnerTrac reglued all the magnets in the complete shipment and it turns out I wasn't the only vendor who got burned with bad epoxy.

Just saying the saving seems great but so is the risks

This is an excellent point, and it is a good reason WHY we should use a proven design/motor Kenny already has made huge numbers of already... NOT a new unproven design... like this new motor he made with issues... for some few unlucky buyers...

Let's use off the shelf motors previously made already & any upgrades added should be easy & not add much to the cost or likely-hood of mistakes too! :wink:

* 10 gauage phase wires
* able use disc brake
* upgrade better hall sensors

I agree with deVries comment, Ilia is best choice and excellent since he is in SF perfect for California shipping. Ilia can do lacing to the rim with some extra costs.
