If only they used a non-steel gear in these motors... Of course some wouldn't take the punishment, but if you took care of it, you'd have a great cheap motor for mid-drive and it'd be QUIET.
Mush! Mush you electrons! Push harder!
Main ride: Old School Specialized Stumpjumper FSR, Clyte HT3525, 74v lifepo4, 12fet Infineon set to 26amps. And a bunch of others... viewtopic.php?f=6&t=34236&p=497325#p497325.

And brushless..
ES facebook group: http://facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_125035107565566&ap=1

The all-arounder: 8T MAC motor on a Trek 4500.
The girlfriend bike: 350W front MAC on a 700c Trek.
The wheelie machine: 20" Rear Magic Pie II on a Trek 4300 MTB
The Bus: ??? on a 'da bomb' cargo bike frame

Pro-tips for noobs: Avoid BMS Battery like the plague | Charge RC Lipos to 4.15v, stop discharging at 3.5-3.6v | Use torque plates/arms! | Rear mounted hubs are always best

They do work fine as a mid drive. I have 2 motors running in tandem as a mid drive now. And the noise is less because the load is less.

neptronix, No of couse their not brushless but having brushes is not the end of the world. Bob

I've not gotten my hands on the 2011 model yet.
I'm very interested, as to any enhancements, on this years model.
Motor model-noise, etc.

Color scheme, looks to be the 2011 model, at Amazon, as well as Walmart.
I have 4 EZips & 1 IZip, all fully functional, but will purchase a more advanced model, if noticeably improved.

Recommended improvements:
Quiet motor
12ga spokes
motor freewheel, w/removal tangs

There, shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely, sobers us again.
