i guess there'd be some work to be done regarding those pesky pedals...

No time to rewire/install/test/tighten the spokes of the HS3540 this weekend. Not in a hurry either, as the 9C wobble seems to have stabilized. lol. only doing max 1' jumps...

Was quite surprised to see the SNOW on saturday. My son was desperate so we made the best of it.

And Sunday, I rode downtown to see some of the Marine Corps Marathon (which my bro/sis in law were in). After 10 or so miles, I limped home on speed switch one for the last 2 miles. I love that switch! Great for current management... Here's just a couple scenes - the camera wasn't properly mounted so the footage sucked, but I really like the last scene of the apocalyptic water cup cleanup effort:


And finally, I got tired of charging my cells only up to 82.5V and having only 7Ah, so I opened the charger, found the little screw under the fuse and turned it until the volt meter read 84V. I had a good idea this would charge the battery higher than that, but since they're fairly well balanced didn't mind trying out a high charge for a bit. And this morning, I unplugged it after a couple hours and checked, and yep, like a nest of robins! (if it's upsidedown, hit the 480 res version. should be fixed there):


Got some leads, but no definite action on 'the donor hunt'.

GoPro officially released the HERO2 on October 24th but it was already out for sale at our local Best Buys here in California a week earlier (makes sense since GoPro is based here in Half Moon Bay, California). I was fortunate to notice and bought one. Since then I've been testing it and putting it thru the paces and I can honestly say this new HERO2 vidcam ROCKS!!! (for the most part).
Two things I can definitely say is that the new menus make this camera much easier to use than the original HERO, and it's low-light capabilities are pretty awsome.

For those of you who want to know what's new on this how this HERO2 ... I can have my HOT GIRL (OLIVIA) explain and compare the HERO2 and original HERO vidcams for you.
She's hot and speaks my language....GEEK! LOL... I think I'm in love!

This video proved to me how much better the HD Hero2 is over the original HD Hero.



Check out the low light capabilities, color saturation, and sharpness! Amazing. It also has 120 fps capability and soon will have wi-fi streaming and wi-fi remote control too!

yeah, it looks at least twice as good! the 11Mb will help for timelapses, more cropping ability. i've stopped using it much indoors because of the low light and crappy audio, so i don't need to be persuaded...

I don't doubt it's better but some of the specs are a bit misleading. The f2.8 they keep going on about is actually the same as the original one so it must be the image sensor that gives the better picture. The 120 fps mode is only at the lowest quality setting unfortunately unlike 60 fps which is at 720p. To be honest I can't see much sharpness difference between the 2 in those side by shots - I certainly wouldn't say it's noticably twice as sharp. The low light performance is better and the saturation and contrast does seem higher, but the later may well be just tweeked software.
I looked into grabbing one but the shipping from gopro is a little rude - $85 to Australia which makes them the same price as locally (only $10 shipping in the US)

Home made chest mount Greg ? Do you reckon it needs to be a bit lower ? I reckon if you're going to go with a chest mount you want to see more of your arms and the bars - otherwise the shot doesn't look much different to a helmet cam.

And what/where is your CA actually mounted to ? It looks like it's off behind the bars ??

Yeah, part of the motor sports mount tucked under my belt. I was sure it was aimed too low, so of course it was aimed to0 high!

yeah, i made a custom mount for the CA, back when i mounted the gopro on the neck/stem whatever. the top of the fork clamp had 4 bolts it was easy to use for extensions. i got tired of the noise that mount made, and the fact that the sky reflection makes it impossible to ever read it...

very observant, hyena. did you notice i've got different types of gloves on each hand? can't find the matches!

good to know about the gopro. i haven't had a chance to study it. was just stewing in my own envy...

I like the angle. Most of the helmet mounts I have seen are way to low. I always want to see the horizon and not just the ground in front wheel.

that is a swingarm & shock off of a yamaha yz model from 84ish. The front end looks like parts donated from a pre-79 honda elsinore (guessing there..they could be anything form the big 4 entry bike line's from 75 to present day)

Wow I never would have thought....

But I actually like the results it gives. The view is straight forward and pretty stable and you can still see hands and handlebar sometimes when Gregs sits down. For the most part when you can't see them I'm assuming Greg is standing up on the pedals.

The few times I tried the GoPro on the helmet mount I got video that wasn't stable and made me kinda sick to watch.
I'd get too many head bobs because I keep looking up at the road then down at my CA then back up again.... and of course all the quick left and right movements. I'm gonna have to try the chesty mount myself.

I like your footage tho Greg. It shows how easily a skilled ebike rider cuts thru busy Washington DC traffic. On the other had it also documents all your traffic violations with you blowing thru red lights.

that is hilarious.

i got some B Roll footage from the shoot, but unfortunately, they didn't give me the clip when josh said about the zappy: "aw, this bike is for pussies!".

so just a couple scenes when i was trying really hard to go slow - and remember, this is from 11 months ago:


might get around to playing with the hs3540 this weekend. and more importantly, replacing my front axle! i keep visualizing the catastrophic... so i look forward to fixing that.
