CAN message list for Mercedes Smart?

Postby circuit » Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:27 pm

Going to convert to electric, need a list of CAN messages. If anyone has it or knows where to look, please share.
I do have a CAN sniffer and can make up a load of log files, but nothing makes a lot of sense. I always can take a diagnostics tool, use it to light up a lamp in the dashboard and sniff the CAN code, but this is a very time consuming task. I hope someone has already done that.

this is what the Microchip 30F microcontroller manual says about CAN protocols:

The higher levels of the protocol are run by software. Within the CAN bus specification, there is
no definition of the type of message, or the contents, or meaning of the messages transferred.
These definitions are made in systems such as Volcano, the Volvo automotive CAN specification
J1939, the U.S. heavy truck multiplex wiring specification; and Allen-Bradley DeviceNet and
Honeywell SDS, industrial protocols.

try a google on these keywords I would say...

basically that's how you need to do it unless you can get them direct from Smart, which I doubt you can. It's very time consuming.

I am in hope that someone has done this already and has the info published somewhere or reads my text now and can share (or sell) his work.

Cool story bro.

Trying to keep everything in order after ditching ICE, obviously. I need to understand CAN messages to be able to mimic proper engine operation and to display electric motor's RPM on dashboard, etc.

That kind of information is more likely to be found a ECU hacking forum. Who makes the motor? According to wikipedia 2007-2011 is made by mitsubishi so maybe try there? Or maybe a mercedes forum?

Will do.

But, seriously. There are quite a few converted smarts on evalbum. How did they do it? Or they are running them without ABS, dashboard, immobilizer ..?

I know they love, I do too. And I will try to contact each one of them, but the problem is I really have no time to chat on how nice their projects are and need to go straight to the goal :)

OK, understood, there is no such data available on the free web. Thanks.
