blown capacitor

Postby Rouckie » Thu Mar 01, 2012 3:12 pm

I was measuring the no load current of a Towerpro TP5330-9T. I was using a current/Voltage source. at 30V the motor didn't run smooth at startup so I added a capacitor. I thought it would help, but in fact after a few seconds the capacitor blew with a big bang. How come?
I was using a cc hv110 controller.

ps: the numbers I obtained: resistance = 0.034 Ohm, no load current @ 12V = 1.2A, @ 22V = 1.6A, @30V = 1.8A

:oops: it was a 16V capacitor used at 30V. My mistake.

numbers on a Turnigy 80-100-B 130kV motor I had lying around for a couple of years now:

resistance = 0.02 Ohm
no load current @ 12V = 4.1A, @22V = 5.2A, @ 30V = 6A
measured with the same cc hv110 controller.

You need as minimum of four (or more) 50V caps (AJ uses 63V), they are cheap, $2 each...heres the part numbers:

Hi Rouckie,

Thanks for adding the extra info on the 80-100-130! :)

Is that with or without the skirt bearing?

How can you see the difference between a skirt bearing and a non-skirt bearing? Is it possible to see from the outside or do I need to open up the motor?

look in the last picture from rouckie, if you have a skirt bearing there will be bolts on the right side of the rotor(the rotating can)

I think I saw figures without the skirt bearing somewhere (can't find it anymore), how much more efficient would it be? also, in our application, is the skirt bearing usefull?

thanks
