8mm-10mm aluminium plate is our favorite for the job..

What is it to fit too (vehicle)?

Well, we could make one up to a pattern for you, but I bet you'll find someone local with a milling machine and some free time. An offer of a very scary ride on a 30hp KMX should be worth an hour of milling:D

Hmm.. agreed.

I am surprised however that there are no vendors selling pre-stamped plates for this motor.. i googled a number of times with no success, i'm either searching the wrong thing.. or people just make their own every time.. odd.

Problem is the mountings for the vehicle need to be cut into the plate too. The plate size/shape can vary greatly. We must have made over 30 mounting plates for Agni's and no 2 were the same. I've actually had 3 completely different mounts on the same Aprilia over the years..
There used to be a vendor selling a simple star shaped mount for the etek - but it was years ago when I saw it and I can't remember where..

makes sense...

So , a question then, the agni site says it's ok to mount the motor on only one face and using one of the 2 diameter faces.. Do you guys bolt down the motor front and back regardless?

No, we prefer to use the outer ring of M6 holes with at least 4 bolts. No need to bolt the back end (in fact, new motors don't even have holes on the backplate). Best to make as large a hole as possible around the shaft (ie. nearly the full diameter of the motor) to allow air to enter the ring of holes near the circumference on the endplates.
Using the centre mounts often fouls the shaft/sprocket area - as well as blocking the intake vents.

I think sensibly you should build the motorbike - but I want you to build a drift trike:D

I think that the agni you got from Black arrow would be awsome on the KMX ! :D

I know what performances i get with the X5 at full power so with like 2x more power

Would be awsome!

Ther is plenty of room on the back of the seat for teh motor anc controller and you could place the battery right under your legs on the T junction of the frame wich i found really improoving stability!

I'm just heading abroad for a few days, but I'll try to take some snaps and start a thread when I get back. It wasn't a big deal, nice big open boxes to work with - only took a day to assemble the largest pack.

Gaston, I suggest you get them laser cut from 8 mm aluminium. I got mine done that way, then had them TIG welded in place on a precision jig. The laser cutting and materials came to $108

Me just dicking around with the plates:

The end result:

I have way too many bolts on them - just one on the centre ring and 6 around the outer ring is all that's needed.

Daaaamn.. now that's a sight !

I gave the motor to my neighbor last night, he's going to drop in at a local metal shop today and see what's what, should find out later today....

And i've made up my mind about the honda vs KMX.... i should be getting a total $$$ for shipping the KMX shortly !!

the honda would be restricted to off-road.. the KMX i can slap on a " 200w " sticker and use on the streets ! :P

Mr ypedal,

you could have emachineshop do a plate for you fairly cheap.

If you go with a relatively universal design, let me know and perhaps we could have two made up at the same time. Myself, I'm looking for something like this:

I been messing with that emachineshop app, not too hard to figure out, only thing i canot find is material thickness.... searching help...

Jozz or anyone else , if you happen to have a cad file or whatever format water jet guys use, a good friend of mine is friends with a guy who owns a big waterjet and said if i can provide a file he can get me a quick quote..

one other shop in town here for 3/8 aluminum, was talking 280 canadian $$$ !!.. .. i'm sure i can do better than that.. but i admit .. this is new ground and i'm not familiar with what these things cost. so .. :)

I bet Miles or one of the other CAD guru's would knock you up a file.. In fact, I bet I could get Agni to have a batch produced if it proves popular.

I'd suggest 8mm Aluminium minimum - 10mm optimum, but you probably won't be going for full power very often - the KMX will bend before an 8mm mounting..

$280 just for the ally? I'd expect less than $60 (based on UK prices).

re: material thickness, it is 3d so in general - the Z-axis is the thickness. you don't see it, unlessyou have something selected.

to play with, here is a mount I was last mucking around with. You can save it as an xml file and load it into emachineshop. Please be aware, there may be real design errors, not just the obvious logical ones...
