not me...but getting close...man crushes on both Luke, and Justin...ha

So this is the plan, I have a lyen 10,000 watt controller and a cromotor on the way and I need to modify this

into a quick easy commuter.

I want 50 mph, and a 50 mile per hour range

ha...the moped is dark blue and will most likely stay that way. The pink is how I feel inside when I ride it.

Im not sure why, but I think it is a universal truth that all mopeds make the driver somehow more femine. Maybe its the whole keeping your legs together when riding it. Hopefully having a greyborg in the rear tire will giving me back that "manly" feeling.

Seriously will be awesome when I pull up next to a motorcycle and see the little snicker on his face wear off when I dump 10KW into the CroMotor!

Will the cromo fit in the original rim?

Oh and no worries man cause it takes a real man to wear pink.

I'll measure the dropouts when I get home, by the looks of it I would say they look easily 8 inches apart. (sorry my mind is still in inches).

The motor that is currently on the bike has some sort of drum brake on it. Which makes me wonder if the cromotor would be a good fit. I dont see any type of brake mount in the area so I may need to find a moped motor that has a drum brake buildt into it.

I remember hearing John in CR talk on the nerdcast about some hub motors from electric mopeds that he used on his bike. Would be nice if I can source one of those.

I purchased a new moped motor recommended by John in CR. http://www.extremescooters.biz/750w-rear-wheel-hub-motor.aspx

Heard this motor can take quite a bit of watts.

Holy crap that thing is going to be fun!

I just hope you don't get hassled by the cops much. These types of "e-bikes" tend to confuse law enforcement. Might be handy to print out a copy of the DOT laws for Florida and keep them on your scooter at all times.

http://www.dot.state.fl.us/safety/ped_b ... Laws1.shtm

Every vehicle propelled solely by human power, and every motorized bicycle propelled by a combination of human power and an electric helper motor capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed of not more than 20 miles per hour on level ground upon which any person may ride, having two tandem wheels, and including any device generally recognized as a bicycle though equipped with two front or two rear wheels. The term does not include such a vehicle with a seat height of no more than 25 inches from the ground when the seat is adjusted to its highest position or a scooter or a similar device. No person under the age of 16 may operate or ride upon a motorized bicycle.

Just don't get busted doing 50 mph on it.

Hmm reading that, your scooter may not be legal in Florida as an ebike after all. This sentence is what's troubling.

No definition for the word "scooter", but under 316.003 Definitions.:
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0300-0399/0316/0316.html
(82) MOTORIZED SCOOTER.—Any vehicle not having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider, designed to travel on not more than three wheels, and not capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on level ground.

sflorlando's bike has a seat, but will attract attention anyway, especially if clocked at 50mph...

Im always been confused about the wording of such things. Is this a scooter or a moped. This thing is basically a 50cc gas moped and I see those all over the place.

I think the term scooter came about in legal statue back in the 90s when those little gas powered razor (type) "scooters" were real popular here. I remember a big to do about them needing a legal classification. Here the 50cc "scooters" are mopeds.

Then again I could be totally wrong. But Lock's definition sure does fit those stand up scooters. I knew many of them that could easily do 45mph.

Alright ill call it a 'emotoped' to add some more confusion.

Will probably add a sticker that says 200 watts on it somewhere. I am betting that I can just put a sticker that says 72 volts on it and tell them watts and volts are the same thing. Noobies. And yes my battery charges when I pedal.

Motor is now in the tire. Hopefully I will be able to put this thing together tonight.

The tire with motorized rim is so much more substantial than a bike tire. Thanks for all the info guys!

The motor is rated at 750 watts. But I have heard it is capable of a lot more. I will definitely test that idea with my 10,000 watt capable controller.

I probably need to get a thermometer hooked up to this motor....

the moped motors dropouts are too large compared to the dropouts on the moped. I'll measure them in a bit...but very slightly off

Unless you have a lot of material to remove or are very skilled with an angle grinder I would stick to a hand file. You can very easily take too much off leaving a loose fit.

Hope you dont mind me using your pics & offering some suggestions?
I would consider this scoot closer to an eBicycle than a eScooter.
Low power, short range, lowish weight.
50 for 50. is a mighty task to ask of that frame.
Consider beefing it up or having someone else weld a bar in the center.
You lose the step through ease, but will look more like a motorcycle.

I think you will find an unacceptable amount of flex riding that thing @ 50mph as is.
Front end flex, swingarm flex, braking flex, frame flex.
Should ride like an ole' Cadillac though.

My experience with a higher powered, better equipped, heavier scooter was lots of flex @ speed.
I put a couple hundred kms. on the Baja 500E.
I ripped off all the bodywork & ratted it out. Got alot of attn. @ 50+kph though.

As for your dropout fitment consider what I am doing with ScootBike looks like you have enough meat on yours to try the Dogman Clamp.

As for motor I think Golden motors is best bang for the buck, especially as you already have a controller.
Only $250+ shipping for 3000w continuous, ? w peak.

Good luck. Keep us posted.
