What a really helpful forum we are

Postby NeilP » Tue Apr 24, 2012 1:45 am

Just did a search on another forum
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/search.php ... unanswered

for unanswered posts...36401, un answered posts!!!

We only have 1000 un answered posts...still not nice to have potentially 1000 unanswered questions...but maybe some are stickies or posts just to comment or inform needing no reply.
I think we need to bring the unanswered post number down..even if it is just saying to the poster that his question can't be answered because he is a ........ :P insert favourite s-word

Hmm. Don't you think that posting answers to spammers is a waste of time?

I find that TIME is the one thing that I have the least of. Time with the wife, time with the kids, time to work so that I can buy more goodies for my bike, time to ride the darn bike, time to study more about oil radiators for my controller, time to get my cycle analogger running, time to test the differences between non-oil cooled motors/controllers and oil cooled, etc

and in the end - hopefully a long time from now - time to die.....

quite an experience to live in fear - isn't it
that's what it is to be a slave

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe

I watched seebirds glitter in the dark near the ten hours gate
All those moments will be lost in time
like tears in rain

...Time to die

You are correct a total waste of time. but not a waste of time replying to real posters with real questions that are never answered. We do really well here, there are not many unanswered posts..as I said only 1000 or less, and if you check the Unanswered posts link, you will see lots that are not spam questions.

Just a quick look does not show many spam posts from my brief look at page 1 and page 20
Just go look for yourself.

I have periodically looked at the unread posts page and answered some, or deleted spam posts/users (there have been quite a few). But as pointed out, time is short, and some of the questions asked are already answered elsewhere in easily-findable threads, by searching on keywords they themselves used in their posts.

Also, there've been a lot of posters that never come back even if their post does get answered. So the question becomes: where do I spend my time?

Then there are lots and lots of posts by people that aren't looking for help, but are just posting info about something they found, or they are posting something for sale or wanted, etc., and communication about the items is done by PM, email. phone, etc outside the thread.

Got a question that isn't personal or private? Post it in the forums, don't PM it. ;)

I think you are both missing my point. I was not being sarcastic, i was being truthful. this forum IS really helpful ...not many unanswered posts when compard to many other forums.

I m saying that we are really helpful compared to other forums..that there is only 1000 or less posts unanswered. the dd-wrt forum that I have been looking at recently has over 36,000 unanswered posts.

Hi Neil,

I did not miss your point, I just did not react to it. I actually fully agree with you, and I have asked many a question myself here and received wonderful responses.

There are many many forums now on the net about the most varying topics. Some of them are not active, a lot are generating thousands of reactions each month. Like in "real life" the people there are making the difference. I have found the people here wonderful and willing to help. One could also say "more mature" than in some other forums.

I agree that it is important to keep this going. I am very happy someone else is taking care of the spammers. And at this moment, I am happy to try and answer questions if I know some of the answers. I have found my own learning curve pretty steep (one year ago I did not know the difference between a geared and a DD motor, not to mention what a midmotor is). And a steep learning curve also means you can help others quicker. :D

I will take a look at the unanswered posts. No promises.

Thanks for pointing it out Neil. It's just further confirmation that this is by far the best forum on the internet.

It certainly does
I just happened to look at in answered posts on the other forum I mentioned, and saw aomething like 730 pages of un answered posts....36000 or more, that got me wondering how many we had hear, virtually none in comparison

It's getting tougher to keep up... not long ago, "view active topics" was only a page of stuff I hadn't seen. Now, it seems many pages of new posts spawn overnight.
Have a Nice Day,
