I'm all for castration....... of hub motors. It's going to happen eventually anyhow. It's a problematic way of mounting a high powered motor to a vehicle.

There's a new thread started in the ebike general discussion called 5404/5403 the good the bad the ugly.

All you need is a 4:1 - 5:1 reduction to gear this to run at 40mph on a bicycle at 12S voltages. That can be done in a single stage with just differing size sprockets.

6 hp continuous ( 4.5kW ) and 19 HP peak ( 14.25kW ), at 22lbs, it's got a power level that is close to what the cromotor can put out. It is most likely more powerful than the 54xx. If it's underrated, then it's even more insane than initially thought.

90% ( probably peak ) efficiency would best the cromotor and Crystalyte 54xx.

There was intense interest in these motors a few years ago. Not sure why it dropped off.

The all-arounder: 8T MAC motor on a Trek 4500.
The girlfriend bike: 350W front MAC on a 700c Trek.
The wheelie machine: 20" Rear Magic Pie II on a Trek 4300 MTB
The Bus: ??? on a 'da bomb' cargo bike frame

Pro-tips for noobs: Avoid BMS Battery like the plague | Charge RC Lipos to 4.15v, stop discharging at 3.5-3.6v | Use torque plates/arms! | Rear mounted hubs are always best

You may have missed this, but this discussion thread for the motors has been around since April 1st, don't miss out on that content (including discussion on the axle stripping):

Thanks for pointing that out oatnet. The purpose of the new thread (although related and important) is for everone to give their review, likes, dislikes, fixes and workarounds, post questions, point out suppliers and supplies to go with these motors and show and tell a little about what they are doing with these motors. Also here in this sales/buy thread and other relating to the group buy, will expire, loosing all the info, where the ebike general discussion area will live on in infamy! Thanks again for pointing out Doc's review thread. The new thread that's been started is titled 5404/5403 The good The bad The ugly. Hope to see everyone there!
