some park action,
(i dont think these guys are on ES)....

The chassis is RHS steel, the deck is plywood and the drive unit consists of a R/C plane speed controller (sensorless), a permanent magnet DC brushless motor driving a centrifugal clutch from a mini-moto. This has been modified to engage as a much lower RPM by replacing the springs. The gearing from the clutch bellhousing is 9T to 68T. The undriven wheels are from ebay with integral roller bearings. The driven wheels are from a mobility scooter. Both sets are 250mm diameter. Also included is a disc brake from a mini-moto. The motor, clutch and axel are supported on a CNC machined 8mm aluminium plate frame..
This video shows it going at about 1/4 throttle, which was enough to scare me. I have since gone a bit faster, and though I haven't got the GPS out yet to test, it feels like about 20mph.
The centrifugal clutch allows me to use a cheap controller without fear of blowing it when the board is stalled. The brakes are effective too.
I started making it just before learning that things such as this are illegal to use on UK roads and pavements, so I'll never be able to use it on more than a driveway.
