Please help currie tech motor goes reverse while moving

Postby duffmanaudio » Thu May 03, 2012 7:31 pm

I just replaced a older blown XYD (currie tech) motor with a new xyd 1000 watt motor from tnc scooters. Now when I hit the throttle sometimes it jerks like its breaking or reversing. I'll be just coasting and when I hit the throttle it sometimes jerks & damn near throws me off the bike.

Is this a timing issue?

Has anyone experienced this before & how do I fix it?

My equiptment is

kelly kds 48 100
xyd 36v 1000w from tnc scooters

AFAICS on their site that's a brushed motor, so there is no timing to worry about--it's all mechanically done inside the motor automatically. Unless osmething is physically wrong with the motor, or there is debris inside it, it shouldn't be possible to have a timing problme in there.

It sounds more like the controller is doing something, like maybe regen braking? If it has that feature, you might make sure it is disabled, so that there can be no floating voltages on the brake lines (if not connected), potentially causing it to engage "randomly".

Could also be a connection problem between motor and controller, so that it does not always have the necessary low-resistance connection, and then arcs across it and then makes the connection well enough to run until power is later decreased below the arc threshold?
