Audio type resettable fuses

Postby alsmith » Sun May 13, 2012 4:02 am

There are resettable fuses with up to 150A but specifications are hard to find, they only tend to mention 12V. Does anyone know if they should be ok at 36V, will it need derating?

The only mentions I've seen up to now:
- on an Australian site- 100A DC Also works 12/24V. Will trip at 110A or immediately under short circuit conditions
- on ebay all ratings are at 12V, for 24V divide Amp rating by 2.

I have used some of those (or lookalikes) in the past and found them a little dodgy. By that I mean that it was hard to get the breaker to trip manually by pressing the trip/test button. They seem to stick.

Bussman make some better quality units. Would recommend you source those. Have used them in ratings up to 100A....but pretty sure they make larger ones.

If they are rated for 12Vdc.....how they behave at higher voltages is probably unpredictable. They may not be capable of breaking the arc and may just burn. Should go for ones that have the correct voltage rating.

These are the ones I have used previously: http://www.cooperindustries.com/content/public/en/bussmann/transportation/products/circuit_protection/circuit_breakers/series_187_marineratedcircuitbreaker.html
