I do have MagicPie III, The difference between II and III, The II has 2 choice controller built-in internal inside the motor which is piece of crap due overheat destroy the controller or the external version allows you to use the LYEN controller (best choice!) and The MPIII has the internal controller (no external version) and they were re-design and improved cooling internal controller without getting too hot from the motor.

If you are not going overvolt then go for MPIII internal controller with the 48v battery pack and If you wanting overvolt then get an MPII external version and slap LYEN controller with high volt 100v (this one will give you an HOTROD ebike).

I bought MPIII and running 48v on Yuba Cargo bike and I am not satisfied with MPIII due lackster torque on 10% uphill grade in SF and it was TOTAL EPIC FAIL. I should have gone get MPII external version instead. ARGH however my girlfriend said that she is fine with current MPIII as long as it's flat road.

I recommend the Magic Pie 3 hands down. $400,

What do you know about the differences between the Magic Pie 3 and the Magic Pie 2? This question is also for anyone who has or has had both, or used both. Are the wiring harnesses and/or controllers interchangeable? Is there a section on Endless Sphere that is specifically for Golden Motor or Magic Pie (company or products)?

I have now received the battery and kit and ready to set it up, unfortunately I also woke up to see my bike has been stolen
(oh the irony) so will now have to fork out for another bike.

I have the motor laced into back wheel, the controller (lighter than expected which is a plus), triangle battery and bag,
charger, throttle and wires...
I of course have never put one of these together so would like any tips and suggestions you guys have?

How long will the 52v 11.5ah battery take to charge on a 48V 2A charger?
Are there any precautions to take while charging and using such as overcharging and running empty?
Also what would be the approximate range of the battery @ 15mph?

11.5a divided by 2a =.. we'll call it 6 hours. it will take some extra time to balance the first few charges.
Precautions. Never over charge it unless its too cold in your house, or you want to roast marshmallows. Never drain it empty unless you just want to dispose of it.But the BMS should avoid that. Just be aware that you don't want to drain it down so far that the BMS has to kick in very often. its best to keep at least 20% above that. Call the last 20% a reserve tank. the battery will live much longer that way.

How far you go depends on how you set your bike up. Your tires, riding position, riding style, hills, stops and starts, wind, and speed all effect how far you can go. At 15mph you might take 12 watts per mile, or you might take 40 watts per mile. for a geared motor like yours, I'd guess 20 watts per mile at 15mph. Confused yet? Your battery has 598 watt hours in it (52v X 11.5a =598W) your watt hours per mile is like a car's MPG, only its said more like gallons per mile. In this case, 20 watts per mile, and 598 watts per tank... err, battery. So you could get just shy of 30 miles per charge if you drained it down to the BMS cutoff. Or you could drain that battery in under 10 riding it hard. Or you could much better riding very conservatively. YMMV

Sorry to hear about your bike. Its typical that of all the times it could have been swiped, it happens the day before you get your kit. To look on the bright side though, you get to buy a new bike.

Speaking from experience, if I were to have to buy a new bike, I'd go decent full suspension no questions asked. My hard tail is ok but a full-sus would make tons more sense.

Unless you plan to go off road, get slick road tyres. If you do get a full-sus you can whack the pressure up to 50-60psi improving drastically your rolling resistance. I can only get away with 40 psi on my hard tail before the ride becomes uncomfortable.

Hi Tony yeah its a real pisstake, but like you said maybe it was time for a new ride anyway
Also I will now be extra cautious with where its left.
The problem with full suspension is the back one wont leave room for the battery,
except the slick ones that position the piston differently but they are beyond my budget (£500 max pref £400)

Here's a couple hardtails Ive been looking at, leaning towards the specialized as it has hydraulic disk brakes which are awesome.

Oh yeah I forgot you had a triangle battery. I'm not sure how they mount but this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... =true&msg= is one I've been considering. Would your battery fit forward in this triangle and clear the shock?

That specialised is a nice beefy lookin bike.

I'm pretty sure it wont fit, but I'm fine with hardtails, mostly using it for road and country trails/dirt, wont be doing any serious downhill with the ebike kit.
Ive always liked specialized, smooth ride and very "poised" for action.

On another note I'm glad I got a geared hub, the mac looks very stealth, I think the only thing is finding a place for the controller, either by cramming it in the battery bag side pocket or maybe strapping to the frame...

Bad news I bought a new bike and the hub didnt fit because the motor was rubbing on the disk break caliper,
I fitted the kit to an old specialized to see if it worked, and it did work but I dropped the battery and smoke started coming out of it...I feel so pissed off now is there anyway to fix the battery what can I do?

Looks like 2 cells are damaged, cell man is sending me replacement cells and guiding me through it, I will be back with good news yet

Meanwhile does anyone know of hydra disk brakes with slim calipers?

There was a thread a while ago outlineing suitable calipers. I can guarantee that most wont fit. This is one of the reasons why chain drive is attractive (apart from taking all that weight out of the back wheel - sick of breaking spokes and bending wheels on the DH rig with a hubbie).
