Jeremy Harris has come back to ES for those of you that have not noticed. He was quickly promoted to Guru, so, hopefully, we've conned him into posting more often!

For those of you that don't know Jeremy he was/is one of the smartest best contributors that ES has ever had. Very worth while to read Jeremy's posts.

He is also a very interesting man, imo, too.

Jeremy, we're all grateful & so pleased to have you back home on ES. 8)

You should definitely also be a Guru my friend. Making your own scratch built better than anything you can buy controller, and your own motor made from household stuff definitely puts you solidly in the Guru's category.
For ebike parts, don't be a douche, buy from http://www.ebikes.ca or http://www.MethTek.com

No, that can't be it..
ES facebook group: http://facebook.com/#!/home.php?sk=group_125035107565566&ap=1

The all-arounder: 8T MAC motor on a Trek 4500.
The girlfriend bike: 350W front MAC on a 700c Trek.
The wheelie machine: 20" Rear Magic Pie II on a Trek 4300 MTB
The Bus: ??? on a 'da bomb' cargo bike frame

Pro-tips for noobs: Avoid BMS Battery like the plague | Charge RC Lipos to 4.15v, stop discharging at 3.5-3.6v | Use torque plates/arms! | Rear mounted hubs are always best

Thanks guys, it's great to be back. Things have been a bit hectic over the last year, plus I've been tinkering with boats more and more, so I haven't had much time to pop in here. It got to the point when I stopped coming here that I was spending a couple of hours a day just researching and answering PMs, which was more time than I could spare for a hobby.

I'll only be around for maybe an hour or so a day, as I'm building another boat for this years Cordless Canoe Challenge, a race that's sponsored by Makita and Watercraft magazine for boats powered only by cordless tools. This years entry is a foam core composite boat, super lightweight, with a home made outboard type drive that uses a 13" home made stainless prop. The race is in just over three weeks time and I'm still laying up epoxy and glass................

I built a foldable kayak before I started with the e-bikes...

If you rig an electric motor for it, then you could cross the lake again much faster too. Looks good, btw.

Take some build pics Jeremy & post these in the boat section after your race. Looks to be a winner from your design notes. 8)

Thanks.

Nice canoe, Lebowski, and similar in some ways to the boat I built for the Cordless Canoe Challenge last year:

Small - covered.JPG

This boat was right on the overall length limit of 5 m though, so I couldn't fit the drive on the stern (they include the length of the drive in the limit). This year's boat has a flat bottom, as last years competition showed that at least one boat was close to being on the plane. It's still roughly canoe shaped, but is a copy of a duck hunting punt used in the marshes of the East Coast of England. These traditionally had a large bore gun fitted on a deck mount, for killing as many birds as possible with a single shot. Pictures to follow.................

Congrats Guru Jeremy! In the US market hunters used to fire a punt gun at "sitting ducks" on the water, which was basically a small boat mounted cannon filled with bird shot: thus the phrase "ducks on a pond" for something easily accomplished.

Thanks. The same technique was used here, back around 100 to 150 years ago, with guns that looked very much like small cannons! Here's a video of using a duck punt here:

http://youtu.be/pwEwF7VAaEA

My guess is that the tradition of using punt guns just crossed the Atlantic at some point in the last 200 years or so, as the boat designs look very similar. Punt guns are rare, now, and probably banned as being a bit unsporting in many areas, but the old punts have seen a revival recently, as people have realised that they can be sailed quite well in shallow water. This is the type of duck punt I'm building: http://www.duckpunt.org.uk/ although mine is built from epoxy glass over 10mm thick foam, so is a fraction of the weight of the traditional duck punts. I'm planning on sailing it after the cordless tool competition, as it looks like a fair bit of fun.

Good to see you back Jeremy, you've always been very kind, patient, and generous to me. I haven't asked you very many questions, but I have read many of the responses that you have given to others in the many questions you've helped with.

What have you been doing for fun these past few months...besides the canoes?

Pluss one on bumping lebowski to guru. And we will take what ever time we can get Jeremy.

Aw or one of the mods is it possible to shut off emails from people? I can handle what I get but I mean for the guys like Luke, Jeremy methods Bigmosse etc. Maybe they could have a setting that only lets PMs come from friends? Or no PMs at all???
Thanks Justin of http://www.ebikes.ca/
