Removing chinese freewheel?

I was wondering what tool(s) i need to remove the freewheel on a chinese 1000w hub motor

Normally the wires come out of the other side of the motor and your freewheel removal tool wood go over the axle and engage the freewheel. I think you'll need to ask the company who made that hubmotor for their freewheel removal tool.

Hmmm... looks like you'll need to take the freewheel apart to remove it.

A pin-wrench should be able to get the outboard race removed - all the outboard bearings will fall out and the housing/sprocket can pull off, letting all the inboard bearings fall out - leaving the inner races attached to the hub. A large pair of channel-pliers or pipe wrench should get it. Pay attention to LH or RH threading.

Can you use a Dremel to make one or two deep notches? Then use a big flat screw driver and a hammer to unscrew it? That's how I would do it.

See the two notches at 1 and 7 o'clock? I would make them a little deeper. Then insert the tip of big flat screw driver into one of them in the UNscrewing direction and tap the screwdriver with a hammer. Does that make sense?

Cutting into those threads could be a chore. A diamond or cutoff wheel might do it.

But the freewheel is too cheap to bother saving. I'd take it apart, take it off, throw it away and get a better one.

Plus, if it's been on there for very long, the aluminum and steel may have bonded and even the pipe wrench might be a chore.

I wonder if they put it on backwards? If they did, then the notches used for the removal tool are on the motor side.... :(

But the good news is, if it's on backwards, you can just use whatever will grab the sprocket teeth and turn counterclockwise, and it'll take it off, becuase it will freewheel in the other direction.

One can often remove a freewheel by putting the freewheelin a vice and then turning the wheel itself the correct direction. The leverage does it.

Sounds like a good idea. Are the freewheel teeth damaged by the vice's clamping force?

I put a chisel against the notch meant for the spanner and knock it with good force using a hammer. Works every time.
A cold chisel is better. A regular wood chisel will get ruined. It does cut a bit of a groove in the edge of the notch but that does not matter much.

Tool facing up in the vise, set wheel onto tool, grab rim and turn normal rolling direction.
