Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

A performance car is approaching or exceeding 1000 amps on 400V. So having 1/4 or 1/8 the voltage would complicate things. But sure, if it's a light vehicle it can get some performance even on a lower voltage. But then I'm thinking less than 500kg. My electric car (1200kg) has a 120V (32s)...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

I have to agree it looks fishy. There was a suspected scam from a Swiss EV startup company a few years ago. A hydrogen car which was supposed to have supercar performance. Thing is, it was supposed to have a 48V system... so the claims couldn't be true of course. Not possible to get high...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

They do have patents, and they have been focusing on developing an electrolyte which doesn't produce unwanted and irreversible side reactions. So there is nothing obvious saying that it is a bluff. Not sure if there is anything backing the claim of 1000Wh/kg. Alevo seems to have been using...

They are making one of the highest claims to date. 1000Wh/kg and 50000 cycles at 100% DOD. https://innolith.com/

Toyota and Panasonic form huge battery R&D & production partnership

I think this sounds like a high up corporate decision, and not something sparked from an innovation in a lab. Lots of manpower and hours will definitely lead to refinement of known technology. But not necessarily lead to innovation.

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

Here is a paper about solid state batteries with claims high power: "The cell possesses high specific power that is superior to that of conventional cells with liquid electrolytes. Stable cycling with a high current density of 18 C (charging/discharging in just three minutes; where C is the...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

I don't think that is correct. Solid state batteries are often claimed to solve the power issue of liquid electrolyte lithium ion batteries. Especially for charging, since the solid electrolyte batteries doesn't have the drawback of a graphite electrode and SEI-layer buildup. So they should have...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

Solid state batteries are not significantly different to other kinds of lithium ion batteries. Most parts of the battery is the same. But there is no separator, and the graphite electrode is replaced by solid lithium, which has two main benefits: -We get rid of the nasty electrolyte used in...

Lebowski's motor controller IC, schematic & setup, new v2.A1

Usually those sensors gives an output signal which is a small current (that is proportional to the measured current). So its just a matter of connecting some resistors of the right size on the output to get a 0-5V signal. But check the offset and noise specs, they might not be good for a sensor...

Sensorless at standstill, development updates and status

Amazing work! So how does it work with power? Does it take a "break" from driving the motor now and then to run the algorithm, or does it work continuously while powering the motor? (Not that I think it matters much for the user. I am mostly just curious and amazed!)

    SUPER SOCO ... no Sur-ron here =)

I found some pictures of the insides of the battery: Since it's 60V, I have assumed from the start that the battery is 16s, which would mean 3.75V per cell nominal, and 16s would be a perfect fit to many cell monitoring IC's. But from these pictures it looks like 17s9p or 17s10p right...

Thread for new battery breakthrough PR releases

I'm bumping this, because I think it seems promising. What are your comments to this solid state electrolyte? Apparently, it can also be used for alkaline batteries (Zn/MnO2), which makes them rechargeable. This might be a more environmentally friendly battery than lithium with cobolt. And...

Update files Lebowski controller IC, latest: v2.A1

Hey Lebowski, I haven't visited this site in a long time. I'm thinking about buying one of your chips. I remember you showed a video once where you had a GUI which showed a dot spinning in a circle at the same speed of the motor. Are you still using that? Would that be a good tool to use when...

Yamaha PED2 and PES2 AND YPJ

I think the Yamaha PES2 (the sport bike, first pic) looks great. I almost feels bad, how good it looks. And at 130kg, it's lightweight too... Great bike. Did anyone find more numbers on it, like battery energy, and motor power?

    Conclusive proof gearboxes are awesome.

The skin depth roughly limits the width of the conductors. In SMPS transformers the flux swings from full positive to full negative with a frequency of 20kHz to 2MHz or so. The skin depth is half a millimeter down to less than a tenth, in that span. In motors the full flux swings with the...
