BAFANG BBSxx change settings on the fly (aka 'cop button') and BBSxx communication protocol

I've done the same with an ESP32 around two years ago, guess I've never posted it anywhere. oops. https://git.botox.bz/BotoX/bafang-esp32 On my motor you have to turn it off and on again for the settings to apply however. Switching PAS doesn't work. With the new open source bbs-fw this is...

    Quality Programmable Sine Wave Controller?

VESC, especially the community hardware. Here in the forum someone is building the "serious focer" and there's also BESC and lots of others. Then all the chinese VESC6 based ones like FOCBOX, FSESC, ... Open source hardware and software.

Bafang BBSHD BBS02 mid drive -- Flexible OpenSource firmware

I know there is a second MCU on the board, here is some info on what it could be: https://electrotransport.ru/ussr/index.php?topic=18823.msg1324810#msg1324810 D79F9211 But I guess it might not be related to the motor control and it's doing something else.

How To, 50A BBSHD Controller Mod

The controller on the BBSHD is garbage, it's using a Chinese STC15W4K32S4 series MCU There is a second MCU, I think that one does the motor control and the STC probably only tells it how much current it wants Original firmware is here: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=100064 A...

I saw a park ranger call out an e-bike rider on FL bike path.......

Imo PAS is much more dangerous in situations where you only want to apply a little power (like in tight turns) but the motor amplifies your strength and it's way too much. My BBSHD threw me off the bike that way when I forgot to turn off PAS in a tight turn on gravel. I was going at about 5...

    sillicone layer over cell tops

I love the thermal argument that keeps on being brought up here. Air is a much better insulator than silicone. The foam stuff that a lot of people wrap their batteries in is a much better insulator than silicone. And you really shouldn't be running your pack at such crazy levels that heat is an...

Fantastic BMS And Where To Find Them (?)

I doubt you'll really need much more balancing current with new brand cells. I have a 14S10P Panasonic PF pack from "recycled" cells (new from welded damaged packs, mixed manufacturing dates) and it stays in balance without balancing. Balancing is only done when the pack is idle (or charging)...

Fantastic BMS And Where To Find Them (?)

There are, I've never used them however. I think Em3v uses a different one in their battery packs. Such high balancing current requires giant resistors that can dump that much heat or active balancing. Do you really need that high balancing current? Name brand cells will need very little to no...

Fantastic BMS And Where To Find Them (?)

I've been using mine for a little more than a year. There's a few threads on ES about them, basically any BMS that uses the "xiaoxiang" app is almost the same HW. https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=88676 https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=91672...

Fantastic BMS And Where To Find Them (?)

The "smart BMS" from this company: https://www.lithiumbatterypcb.com/product-instructionev-battery-pcb-boardev-battery-pcb-board/ev-battery-pcb-board/smart-bms-of-power-battery/ use the Texas Instruments BQ76940 analog front-end IC for undervoltage, overvoltage and overcurrent. The TI IC also...

BBSHD Voltage Problem Firmware Update & Instructions

You could probably order one of the compatible ICs from China and solder that instead. Then you could program it with the software here. Or maybe try to ask bafang support for the correct firmware while explaining your situation.

    bluetooth BMS?

No... It clearly says "Start Voltage: 3900 mV", it'll only balance above that voltage. I had some issues with ticking both "Balance" and "Chg Balance", only picking one of them worked. Also the odd and even stuff is because of a limitation on the TI BQ76940 IC that you can't balance neighboring...

    old motors inefficient?

    >But it seems to drink the juice twice as fast as it should. And you're sure it's not your battery? Because that's a part that will actually get worse with use and age. As far as I know permanent magnets will only demagnetize with heat.

Reention POLLY DP-6C - 70 cell battery case - how fit BMS?

I said copper plane not copper bar :p There is copper on the PCB under the FETs which is connected with lots of through holes to the copper on the underside of the PCB. That will dissipate the little heat easily. But even without that the 1/4 Watt of heat on each of those chunky FETs is nothing...

Reention POLLY DP-6C - 70 cell battery case - how fit BMS?

You made a good choice with the 30A bluetooth BMS. It uses five KIA KNB3308A FETs in parallel, the gate of the FETs is driven with 12V. The datasheet states a resistance of 6.2mΩ per FET, you have 5 of them 6.2mΩ/5 = 1.24mΩ. (I've measured the resistance on mine at 1A each and got 6.2mΩ - 6.4mΩ...
