    2 Speed Xiongda hubmotor

I have just ordered this motor from Bonnie. I'm getting the 36v version for a 26" wheel. Bonnie tells me that the sun gear has been through several improvements and is now much stronger. I certainly hope so! I had heard there was an issue when some? motors locking up when they were wheeled...

    Feddyflatfoot's homemade trike

Ok, it has been a long time since I was on here! I still have the trike, and the current config is the 350w BF motor, laced into a 20" wheel. The 26' wheel lacked the torque I wanted, but did have the speed! Can't even remember the last time I rode her? Although I did lend her to my son when he...

    Ping battery Problem?

I gave the issue some thought, and decided to put a short jumper lead between the charge in lead, and the neg side of the battery, effectively bypassing the BMS. The charger, quite obviously, kicked in straight away! Only had it this way for a few minutes, but it was enough! left the battery to...

Typical 'Duct Tape' performance ? / Need more power

Ahah! Just stumbled on this old thread, after my battery 'died', with two low cells, maybe that was my original problem? I wonder. I've e-mailed Ping, so I'll see what he says.

    Ping battery Problem?

Ok, first things first. I think I have been away from this forum for waaayy too long! Got into recumbents, and have been having a blast doing long distance Audax rides on a lightweight two wheel low racer. So, my electric trike has had precious little use, and in fact has been in storage for...

Help finding a solution to Bafang gear stripping

I'll keep following this thread with interest! At this point, I am still more than happy with my Bafang @ 36v. As it also an overvolted motor anyway, up from 24v, the performance is still respectable in hybrid mode (me!) I have done over 3500 k's on mine, and its still going strong. However, I...

    E-Trike Project

Thanks for the vid Kim! Seems to go quite well, plenty fast enough. Will be faster with LiFePo4's! I hope all that squealing in the vid was the wind in the mic, or was it you squealing with delight? ;)

drop in top speed due to cold?

Hi all, Just been through all this with my Ping pack. Performance did drop off over the winter months, but as the weather is warming up, the performance of my battery is also improving! We still have some cool weather, so I am seeing some variation in performance, but overall, it is much better...

    Building a recumbent bike

There has been a fair bit of discussion on BROL about this design. Apparently the universal joint in the steering is less than ideal. I notice that there is also a mid hub. These have also proved to be less than satisfactory in the power transfer department. There plenty of good designs out...

The REAL difference between 30mph and 50mph !

Sam whittingham holds the world speed record for a HPV. Yes, it is a streamlined recumbent bike, and he managed 132.5 kph, through a 200 m speed trap at Battle Mountain, in Nevada. FYI, other HPV records broken this year. 1 Hour speed record, ~87.2 kph for a faired recumbent and 49.6 kph for an...

    Voicecoil's red, fully rigid commuter

VC, I would be interested to hear how you like the Bafang at 36v. I am more than happy to run mine at 36v, but then mine is a 24v model overvolted to 36v! Cruise speeds above 30 kph are fine for me for my commute, and by keeping the speed down a bit, I also keep a tighter reign on my whr usage.

    Building a recumbent bike

Get those wheelchair wheels! Those hubs are ideal for front wheels on a tadpole trike! 12mm axle, and already setup as a stub axle, go for it.

    Building a recumbent bike

All I can say, is that be careful building a recumbent bike. It can be addictive! I have built 2 trikes for myself, 1 SWB 'bent, two trikes for my daughter and a friend, and I currently building a fully suspended dual 20" SWB bent, and all in the last year!

How do you cope with the attention your Ebike draws?

I get more comments becuase I ride a recumbent trike. Most don't even realise that is powered, unless I tell them!

    System (U, Motor, Controller) Efficiency

Just checked my WattsUp after my ride home from work last night. Used a total of 2.5 AHr for my 13.4 k round trip, and 98.5 Whr. That works out to 7.35 Whr/k! Just tried a couple of things like using moderate throttle, backing right off when getting to speed and holding it there with pedaling...
