Battery Space 20AH Prismatic LiFePO4 tests

Wow, thanks for the update. Looks like these are very suitable batteries for a scooter that needs 20-30a draw. Thanks again, IAN. PS: sorry to hear about your rain soaked (extremely drained) batteries... :(

Gaozhao Charger Investigated (non-OEM from China)

Since I am not good at soldering and refluxing any boards, I want to thank you BIG TIME for this info. I will fortunately continue using this method of CONNECTING THE CHARGER FIRST, and thus by increasing my chances of having the charger last hopefully the lifetime of my LifePo4 battery.... :)...

    Is my 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery (from Sun-Thing) healthy?

Dogman, I think I will follow your suggestion about charging the pack at the end of the week, since I may have only used it so lightly. I guess the daily charging is coming from my SLA days... :) Like you said, my LifePo4 pack will die from old-age rather than cycles, so even if I get 4-5 years...

    Is my 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery (from Sun-Thing) healthy?

Thanks Dogman for the info. I don't see myself going with Lipo, as my main desire is to have something simple & very safe to use. You bring up a few points: 1) Now about the charger charging to 60v, it appears that it is the norm, and not a huge problem in respect to any longterm damage or...

    Is my 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery (from Sun-Thing) healthy?

I agree with you that a 15Ah pack could cost from @ $350 (shipping by slow boat) to a top quality one that would cost $1000-$1200 (with express shipping). We really have to analyse our ebike's needs and go according to our budget. If money wasn't an issue, I would surely get a better quality...

    Is my 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery (from Sun-Thing) healthy?

eTrike, If I understand correctly, you are using A123 cells which are amongst the top tier cells, I didn't think that the SunThing Lifepo4 pouches would produce the same specs. One thing that I have learned here is that you really have to identify your usage parameters : current draw...

    Is my 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery (from Sun-Thing) healthy?

Dogman, thanks a lot for your reply and basically a confirmation of the thoughts that I was having. I also thought that 59.9v (or basically 60v charging) was a little high, but it appears that all the chargers that come from SunThing are at 60v. Is it easy to open up those chargers and adjust...

    Is my 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery (from Sun-Thing) healthy?

Hi Guys & Girls, I have a scooter and had SLA's and when it was time to change them, I bought a 48v 15Ah LifePo4 16s battery from Sun Thing @ 2 years ago. I tested it at the beginning and it produced @ 14.5 Ah and seems to balance fairly quickly. My average trips are @ 6-10 kms, and have done a...

    K Battery, on Alibaba.

Thanks for the updates, it's always good to know how much AND how long these batteries "put out".... Quality is quality, and cheap is usually cheap. Atlas you are getting some use out of it, and it just didn't die on you... :) IAN.

    Max discharge rate/time

Dogman Dan, Lol, I am not a electrical engineer, but having a battery fly 20ft and breaking the battery box could very likely cause some swelling... :) IAN. PS: so having the battery discharge at a constant 1C, and the occasional 1.6C for those hills will not likely cause any premature death...

    Max discharge rate/time

Dogman Dan, I agree with what you say and I find that the scooter draws @ 400 watts (8amps) at 20km/h, and it draws @ 800watts (16amps) at WOT throttle of 31km/h. What is amazing that a 50% increase in speed requires double (or 100% increase) the power. I have been babying the discharge rate...

    Max discharge rate/time

The scooter had four 12v x 12ah lead batteries. They were giving me @ 6-7ah of useable capacity, so the 15ah LifePo4 gives me @ double the capacity. I actually sold my lead batteries to another guy who owned a scooter, and used the $100 towards the new battery pack. Needless to say, I am very...

    Max discharge rate/time

Wesnewell, If I get 5 years out of my LifePo4 battery, I will be really pleased... :) I guess I was worried that running a 15ah LifePo4 pouch battery at 1.6C while running up a long hill for 60-120 seconds might harm the battery. I can see that my battery appears healthy as it's resting...

    Max discharge rate/time

Wesnewell, thanks for the reply. What do you think is the calendar life of a 48v 15Ah LifePo4 battery pack? I don't think I will wear it out by exceeding the cycle life, but what is the average amount of years before a "calendar life" LifePo4 death...? IAN.

    Max discharge rate/time

Dnmun, thanks for the replies, and Yes, I am not disappointed with my battery purchase. Thanks to all you guys on ES forums, I now understand just a little bit about lithium Batteries, and was able to make a semi-educated decision as to what to buy to replace my SLA's. The price of the...
