    The Charly Miller Challenge

The Paris-Brest-Paris 1200k randonee is perhaps the oldest cycling event still running. It began in the 19th century as a no-holds-barred race, with star riders being paced by relays of tandems, and sometimes by motorcycles. In 1901, Charly Miller , riding solo and unsupported, finished fifth...

    Three wheel steering

The latter. As to size, no more than 8' long by four wide, and capable of carrying anything a longtail cargobike can. I'm thinking that for really bulky loads and awkward spaces it could function as a powered handcart or trailer. Just something slightly more all-round useful than a scooter. I'm...

    Three wheel steering

Thinking about the simplest, lightest vehicle that would be usable on any road, with a low frontal area and a bit of streamling for maximum range. Hand controls only. I was at first thinking of something like a racing sidecar combination, but that has a problem of asymmetry: even with a...

BBS01 Intermittent error 7 (overvoltage but battery @41v)

Yes, I misread the manual. There doesn't seem to be an easy cure, though. :? I should have said, the motor doesn't run at all when the error shows. It is intermittent and unpredictable. Originally it happens after riding some distance, but now it shows at startup. If it is a loose wire...

BBS01 Intermittent error 7 (overvoltage but battery @41v)

    Possible cause and cure?

40 kph, 385 kilometers per day on a solar charged ebike

Impressive, but to put it in perspective - Kurt Searvogel: Over 200 miles a day average for a whole year. No solar. No batteries.

    Removing BSS01

I have one of these that I now want to move to a different bike. It was a very tight fit originally, and is now pretty well stuck. Any ideas for getting it out without damaging either it or the aluminium frame?

    Materials for mid-frame enclosure?

I have a shrink wrapped 18650 battery (36v 20ah) that I've be carrying in a saddlebag. Lately I'very experimented with a modified bottle cage mounting, which works well, but it could do with more protection for winter riding. Here's the idea: a couple of rigid side plates (ply?) bigger all...

    The Dynamics of "Aero"

Could work, does work - where conditions allow. Cyclists have been using skate sails for over a century, probably. Round here there's too many hills and hedges, and that's the way I like it! :D

    The Dynamics of "Aero"

I know Murvagh well; it's about twenty miles away. In, fact my brother might possibly be in there somewhere as he hires Blokarts (the mini landyachts). You can see why no one runs them on the road. They need far too much room!

4500+ Miles US Ebike Tour - August 2014

Voice of experience: there's no shame in deciding to give up - but do first take as long as you need to get fed and rested, and only then consider whether you can make it to the next stop. Otherwise you'll end up with a case of "coulda-shoulda."

1200 km, 14 km of climbing in 90 hours - AM I MAD?

Memories, memories! Some scenes from a coming DVD of the ride, mainly from the first day. 8) http://vimeo.com/99334781

Sinclair C5 teardown on EEVBLOG ;)

I tried pedalling one once, a long time ago. No gears, short, flexy crank and a LOT of hard work. The motor could apparently get you up to 15 mph if there isn't a hill in the way. But before you laugh too hard, some folk modify them for drag racing and get up to 150 mph and 0-60 in...

    New Bafang Crank-Drives

It's worthwhile being patient with this. Mine didn't go in easily and now I'm wondering how I'll ever remove it again non-destructively. :?

    Long Distance Ebike Design

Yes, I think what I have got now is a good fit for an upright bike. With a 36v 20amp battery I can now go for any 100 mile road ride I would actually want to ride and not worry about recharging, and all with less than 8 kg more weight than a bare bike. With a fast charger I can recharge whenever...
