    e-Joe Epik: Any experiences?

Yup, see for yourself: http://www.nycewheels.com/brompton-electric-bike.html $2,795 for the basic bike with the electrical system, plus an additional $180 for the required battery bag. A few dollars shy of $3k even, and I'm not even all that impressed with it. Moreover, this is the only...

    e-Joe Epik: Any experiences?

For the first time in as long as I can remember, I find myself in the unusual position of having a 9-5 M-F office job. Basically I'm driving the engineering department at WPIX with regard to a multi-year project to rebuild the studio, the production spaces, the terminal rooms, etc. So there's...

Are you using fuse in battery harness? What type?

There are a number of different ways to spec current limits for cabling, and stranded v. solid actually doesn't have anything to do with it. The AWG ratings for stranded vs. solid make the two equivalent in terms of cross-sectional conductor area. Depending on the application, a chart may be...

    e-Joe Epik: Any experiences?

Ha. Small world, innit? About three blocks. I chose the apartment I'm in partly because of its proximity to the station, which I can see out my window. (Stupidly, I failed to consider the fact that since the NJTrans maintenance yard is adjacent to the PATH terminal, I'd get to enjoy the serenade...

    e-Joe Epik: Any experiences?

Yeah, I rode one very briefly on the sidewalk in Brooklyn, and that's a good way of putting it- nimble. I'm accustomed to "Big, heavy and stable" when it comes to bicycles, which is weird in light of the fact that when it comes to cars I have always gone for "tiny and lightweight." (Two VW...

    e-Joe Epik: Any experiences?

I'd love to hear your opinions. I did ride one briefly around the block at the shop here in Brooklyn, it felt reasonably well put together, though somewhat awkward due to the size and geometry. This, I expect, it probably the nature of the beast with all folding bikes in the 20" wheel class.

Are you using fuse in battery harness? What type?

So I went and looked through some order history. This is the exact fuseholder which I have on my big bike, which runs 52v at 25A: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=070-675 In it, I am running this exact fuse...

Are you using fuse in battery harness? What type?

I run a 30A automotive blade fuse in mine, pulling 25A continuous. No problems at all. The fuse holder is just one I picked up at Frys Parts Express, nothing fancy.

    e-Joe Epik: Any experiences?

So, after three wonderful years of e-bike ownership in San Diego, I have recently taken a job in New York City (Manhattan), and gotten an apartment in Hoboken, NJ, just across the Hudson river. This presents me with a challenge. My current bike is an absolutely fabulous performer, built with a...

BMC Hub Motor - customer support - stripped threads

Thanks. One thing I should point out is that I did things a bit differently from tkollen's original setup, and wanted to reinforce the reason why. Here is a shot from the original set of images tkollen posted: You can see that there is a flat washer and a split washer between the threaded...

BMC Hub Motor - customer support - stripped threads

So, back in town, got everything re-assembled and running. To re-cap, here is what the axle looks like installed into the frame after I shaved down the torque plate and removed the un-needed second shim from the inside (having shaved the brake caliper mount). I have highlighted in green the...

how to make a speed limit switch?

That's exactly what I described in post #3 of this thread. It isn't a speed limiter, it's a voltage divider which scales down the throttle, thus limiting power. It's a bit like installing a mechanical stop which prevents the throttle from being pushed beyond a certain point. edit: I'm not...

how to make a speed limit switch?

Heh. Yeah, that would be my first answer. :) Apart from whatever local laws may govern e-bike speed, I have never understood why anybody would want to install a limit switch on one (outside of extreme applications, where you're running a 144 volt battery and yet still want daily-driver...

BMC Hub Motor - customer support - stripped threads

I've seen those crowsfoot sockets. I even own one (I think it's a 13 or 14mm, for one specific bolt on the air-cooled VW Beetle that's impossible to get to otherwise) but I've never trusted them for torquing- they're offset from centerline. teklektik's suggestion about the O2 sensor socket makes...

BMC Hub Motor - customer support - stripped threads

Thanks. Hopefully it'll all come together as well as I'm envisioning. As it turns out, the nut which comes with these motors also also contributing to the problem. I cut one apart to better illustrate the issue: That area which I have highlighted could contain two more threads' worth of...
