    a123 on ebay again

These cells are emoli, it's LiMn. Closer to the Sony cells found in Milwaukee 28V pack. Definitely nothing like A123 M1.

How Fast is your Ebike versus How Fast do you want it?

top out @ 56 kph typical cruise speed @ 35-38 kph scary test speed @ 68 kph with battery boost pack. I feel much safer @ speed < 40 kph on local street.

    System (U, Motor, Controller) Efficiency

I know we got an ebike, but some of us chose to pedal assist to get some exercise or just give our motor a chance for cooling. I'm interested in what you guys are achieving for efficiency. I think this will help us make a better bike in the long run. So what's your total overall system...

    Negative Li-Ion battery news

It seems like the editor (Matthew Lewis) had a preconceived motive when editing the article. Probably to stir things up and "make headline". It can easily be interpret in a totally different light. "Life means 10 years, plus. For hybrids we know (their batteries) last 10 years plus. For the...

What's the internal resistance of your battery?

Too Much math for this old brain. My A123 M1 have < 1mOhms resistance as bare cells Build into packs it's 4mOhms resistance mostly due to the tap/balancing wires (cell-cell is stilll < 1mOhms) My one bad cells exhibit >3mOhms resistance. Now these are all resting state with > 50% SOC.

DeWalt BMSes have changed (for the worse)

Why don't you just tap the (+) & (-) from the cells and run it out to a pair of Anderson PowerPoles. That way you don't have to worry about the BMS and still keep your warranty intact. You can still use the stock Dewalt charger too, but I wouldn't recommend it as many of the cells were...

    Jonathan's 44 lbs Specialized FSR S-Works

A few member asked me about the charging solution of my pack so here goes. I normally use a Mastech HY5020 for quick charging. This PS set to 36.5V can provide a quick 20A CC/CV charge (2.5C for my 4P configuration). However, this is not the charger I would recommend for everyone. If you want...

    which gauge wire to use?

Jay, I would use Anderson SB120 connectors. And instead of crimping, I would use a 80W solder iron or torch to solder. http://www.powerwerx.com/product.asp?ProdID=35858&CtgID=3578

    which gauge wire to use?

Your wiring requirement is quite similar to what I used in my WWII Search Light (28VDC @ 100A cont). I used 6 AWG welding cable (from CloudEV). These are typically rated at 115A, while the 4 AWG are rated at 150A continuous. Welding cable are usually made of 30 AWG or smaller strands which...

    My Stock Puma Motor Review

BMC / Puma does have an internal planetary gear. When you're coasting there is only road & freewheel noise same as a regular bike. When you engage the motor there is some noise. The Crystalyte DD motor, is always engaged so there is relatively more noise. The gears are also made out of nylon...

Help With Disassembling EVTECH BMC rear hub motor

Use your solder iron @ high heat for control epoxy removal. Don't use a Dremel, it's way too coarse.

    My Stock Puma Motor Review

BMC / Puma motors are definitely in it own class. I have both the BMC (modded) and a xlyte 408 motor. And ridden several different x5 setup. The (+) - BMC definitely have ALOT more torque compared to the 408 and even the 5303 that I've ridden. - Efficiency is significantly 30% better than...
