Magnesium hydroxide powder (like milk of magnesia) might also work well. Should be cheap and readily available.

I'll echo amberwolf's balancing through the dock idea. Extra connections to the charger but less weight on the drone. Only downside is if one cell goes bad, does the drone fall out of the sky? Might be worth having cell monitoring on the drone side to watch battery condition if it doesn't...

Thanks for sharing your research PaulD! To add to amberwolf's post, if the additives are not well encapsulated it could make a salt bath for the battery to quickly corrode. Might be worth considering some thermal cycling (with humidity) with a clean and dry piece of steel embedded in your mix...

I think they're using the front axle / motor in Formula E for regen only. I hope their packaging and build efficiencies will end up in other products or at least push others to improve. Or maybe they will sell their motors to others. I haven't been able to find any info on being able to buy...
