Btw e-beach, though I am in and from Finland I lived 9 years in LA. Worked in Venice. I hope all is good there. I miss the food choices, desert and the beach.
Thanks, I am thinking of buying 4x 100Ah cells as the ready made 12V batteries cost so much more. Definitely pays to do some DIY cases. Also while I have done quite little in terms of electricity projects I would not mind doing a little learning/hobbying.
I am a long time wannabe boat designer and frequent boatdesign.net where you might get decent advice. It can be bit cranky place at times but there is tremendous amount if knowledge there.
Anyway, there have been good descriptions of hull design resistance parameters here and how around hull...
A pretty nice prop tool that you can get 3D models out of. Doesn’t work properly on a phone or a tablet but does work well on a computer.
There are actually two versions, one is for designing (and modeling) the other is for just creating prop from your dimensions. Needs some knowledge but not...
Hey all,
Been member forever but really a lurker. And in recent years not even that.
No I am dreaming of a solar powered simple outrigger canoe. Sails optional.
I am trying to not make things to complicated and just get going so might start with lead acid as I have many so-so used 100+ ah...
I think the huge merit is that its done. Unlike myself who only imagines thing someone has actually gone and done it. Props for that.
That being said I fail to see the advantages.
-Its parks as wide as a car (and cannot lane split or go through narrow passages).
-It has plenty of window...
I am always very skeptical when it comes to claims like "for sale later this year" but all we can see is computer renderings. Especially when it is for something as complex as a car. Legalities and testing can take a loong time on a full passenger vehicle.
This car looks serious enough that it...
I haven't had any juice to think trikes or electricity lately.
But I did find this:

I have read journals of many guys riding motorcycles down to southern tip of South America. No support vehicles and when something brakes you get your parts shipped to a local post office/motel/new friend. They do this solo too.
I sort of understand the choice of support truck - but it really...
I like driving cheap too. And my thinking has lately been that one should (from economical and practical standpoint) drive cheap 5+ year old corolla. Just with the insurance costs saved you can rent a nice bigger car for your vacation road trip needs. And obviously the loss of value for such car...
Mitch - what kind of parts do you want to fabricate? If they are relatively simple mechanical designs I would definitely go 3d-modeling route. For tricky freeform stuff like bodypanels scanning might make sense.
h
you have to see beyond marketing.
1st - 3K$ for scanning hardware, then 3K$ for can helper software that helps re-creating the 3d-model from the scan. The scan itself is typically just a huge cloud of points in the shape of an object. If you are ok with approximate solution I think these days...
Ok - so finally have read the whole thread and have time to properly write up. This thread has been a total delight as especially TomA's concept is very close to the ideas I have been spinning in my head.
My (current) idea is:
- As low windage and resistance as other parameters allow
-...
