    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

Thanks Guys, I have looked at both the Lebowski and VESC controllers as possible upgrades. However I have not heard any reports of either working well with my C80100 motor. I was really hoping for that confirmation before spending any more $$'s/time. -Spata

    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

It has been over 3 years since I took the MT50 off the road, mainly because the expense of insuring it… but also because I never got it to run smoothly. It has languished in the garage since, with a few half-hearted attempts to get it to run better. As a recap it uses a Lyen 18FET controller...

    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

Cool, if Adrian Flux are quoting you that is awesome. I must admit it is a couple of years since I last rang around and at that time they could could not quote. Strangely enough my insurance runs out tomorrow and I have decided not to renew at the moment.... so I need to go out for a last ride...

    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

Hi Swiftyds, I just checked and I sent the updated V5 back to: DVLA Swansea SA99 1DZ Here is the webpage that details where to send your V5: https://www.gov.uk/change-vehicle-details-registration-certificate/how-to-tell-dvla. Earlier on in this thread you will find details on how I filled in...

    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

I have 1.1kwh of battery for my 15 miles range. So, for 20 miles I would be looking at 1.5kwh. When you do your calculations don't forget that you will only get around 80% of rated battery capacity, you can get slightly higher but your battery life will suffer. I don't think I would use an RC...

    Conversion of 125cc bike

It did not actually cost any money to get the registration changed over from petrol powered to electric powered with the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) here in the UK. Just a matter of filling in forms correctly. If you check out my build thread it details the steps I had to go...

    Conversion of 125cc bike

Hi Andy, I managed to get the Honda MT50 mentioned road legal in the UK. The thread is here if you want to check up on the details. The 50cc bikes of the "slowped" era are a lot lighter than the 125cc stuff, which is the main reason I chose this one. The main advice I can give is to decide...

    Radial Cooling of RC Outrunner

Still going strong. It definitely keeps the motor temperature under control, at least in my setup. I used to keep an eye on the motor temperature all the time on my arduino based handlebar readout but I hardly even look at it now. The bilge air blower is designed to run for long periods of time...

    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

If you look at the 5th post in this thread it goes through the process of getting it road legal. I have found a better link to the magazine article about the conversion. Have a look here. You can read the article online with no need for a download. The formatting is not the same as the...

    Honda MT50 road legal conversion

Classic Motorcycle Mechanics magazine have just published an article about my bike. If you are interested it is a 4 page spread, starting on page 60 of issue 360 (October 2017) which came out today. The piece is about a "READERS SPECIAL" and they were really interested in running the...

    Moped with a car fit

Welder454, Thank you for posting the pictures of your amazing looking bike, it has helped me identify the donor of one of my e-bikes. I looked at the forks and wheels on your bike and they looked familiar, I had never heard of Riga mopeds before and did some Googling, and it looks like I might...

    Fazer Conversion Completed

Hi Mike, Glad to hear it passed the MOT and you are on the road. Looks like a lovely conversion. Do you mind telling us who you got insured with? Most of us guys in the UK with modified gas bikes seem to be with MCE and I just wondered if you found someone else who would cover us. - Spata

    Electric Motorcycle (50cc Equivalant)

Looks like this is not the first version - see: https://boulterev.wordpress.com/ Here is a picture from the site, looks like it was taken in 2013. I love the work by the way. Looks like this one was road legal as well, I can see you have changed the frame design slightly (less cross bracing)...

    Ebike scooter project QS 4kw V3 72v, Kelly KEB72601

Agreed - the coil is broken, but if it's from China probably not worth the effort for a refund. Have a check of the soldering and actual wires from the coil, likely as not it will be a dry join where they have not stripped off the enamel insulation well enough. If not then you can always rewind...
