    150A 100V do anything controller

Hi folks, Long time no post, been a bit busy, but my long term new super controller is on it's final run. Basic spec... 150A at 100V using pairs of FDP3651U FETs, with my usual shottkey diode across the body diodes to reduce losses. IR21834 FET drivers dsPIC33FJ64MC506 microcontroller doing...

Changing the UK (EU?) law regarding e-bikes.

A suggestion to the powers that be. To promote high efficency vehicles for general personal transport how about one step above the EAPC rules (250W 15.5MPH). 1. 1kW output, human hybrid to promote fitness. 2. No speed limiting, this would promote low drag designs. 3. I think insurance would...

BMS, how I designed mine. A semi intelligent dummies guide.

I have had lots of interest in my BMS, so here goes attempting to show how and why I did it. What a lithium BMS system should do... 1. Prevent overcharge 2. Prevent overdischarge 3. Prevent overcurrent 4. Balance the cells during charging. 5. Charge the battery, it is part of the...

New pack, look what the postman brought!

The new 2x4P 14S pack is taking shape, 120 18650s arrived today. I musn't rush, there is a whole lot of cash and energy in there!

Oops, just how fast can a Trice Q go down hill.

Took the day off to enjoy a ride in the fine weather, no problems up the hill, all was going swimingly down the hill until I hit about 45-50MPH and then the display went blank. I had popped my new controller. I decided to include battery sharing diodes so (supprise supprise) I can share...

    The 2x4P 14S 18650 lion pack.

As mentioned in my phase advance post I am making a lion pack. Details... 1. A twin pack, so at least I can get home if one f***s up, batery sharing diodes are in my controller allready, think ahead! 2. 18650 cells, now they are less than 3 quid a pop here affordable. And this size will be...

    Phase advance, first report.

Having some time to write a demo program for the motor chip in my controller I tried some phase advance. The first step was 30 degrees using the other side of the bi-directional throttle to give full output 1/2 way and phase advance from 0 to 30 degrees from 1/2 to full. Off load it goes about...

De magnitization current for Crystalyte 408

Does anyone know the current that would demagnetize a 408, or any 400 series Crystalyte? I am asking this because my new controller monitors everything I can think of, this is the last protection feature required.

    TriceQ the photos.

Took her out this afternoon, remembered the camera and remembered to take some photos.

    Too much information?

As an engineer I don't think you can have too much information, but I think I have done it... (appologies for the camera shake)

How about an electric walking stick for Heely shoes?

At my local pub some of the kids (the kids play, parents drink) have fun on their 'Heely' trainers, realising I have enough spares to make an electric walking stick the old brain started to think... Comments?

New home built controller, the first pictures

For fun I am building my own controller for any sensored BLDC motor, using the Crystalyte 408 to start with. The PCB arrived today, I want reliabilty so a home made PTH (soldered through) board was out, so I spent some money on a pro job. I intend to implement phase advance with this, I will...

Phase advance to increase motor speed

To save a) rewinding my 408 and b) getting a bigger battery I am considering using phase advance / field weakening to increase the top speed of the motor. Has anyone tried this on a Crystalyte, did it work?

    The TriceQ in full glory

Been for a spin, 15mph held nicely on normal roads, a bit slower or add pedal for inclines. 20mph downhill (or pedalling if you are mad) tops out at 42V max for the lithiums. I need more speed, so as not to be noticed by the fuzz I think 20mph is about right. that will require rewinding the...

    Heavily modified 408 hub motor.

To make my TriceQ rearwheel 'swap outable' I needed to fit a 9 speed freehub to the 408 motor. Appologies in advance for the order of the pics.
