Caleb's new build Nine Continent Delta WYE

That looks real nice.. sorry about your battery, bummer! Are you planning to cover the contacts on your relay? Looks like it could get shorted maybe? Look forward to seeing that thing run. :D

Your Creation's Before & After Pics

You've got some really innovative stuff going on there, nice work. I found this generator idea particularly interesting... Almost one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments...lol. Have you sourced anything small enough that you could mount on the bike for that? Unlimited range...hmm...

    Is this BMS working?

I don't know what kind it is Fetcher. My vendor suggests shallow discharge cycles to get it to balance, but if one cell keeps shooting up to 3.8V and shutting everything down, I don't see that happening. I can send it back for a check and manual balancing, but then I have no wheels. I still...

    Is this BMS working?

Thanks guys, I see that the BMS is indeed shutting off after one cell gets to 3.8v. That is great that the cell is being is protected, but the low cells aren't being topped off. I will run it through a few shallow cycles to see if I can get it closer, but that's kinda how I've been riding it...

    Is this BMS working?

I have a 36V 15ah Lifepo4 pack that seems to be out of balance. The LVC is ~30V however, It cuts out at right on 35v under a load of ~21amps. Measuring the battery after use I find the cells pretty evenly drained to ~3.3v resting, except for one that is only 3.07v. During charging this cell...

Zoot, How do you support your battery packs? Are they just strapped in the Freeradical bags? Dig your setup man... :D Chris

    48V 20ah battery

In my opinion, you might be kicking yourself if you don't get the 48v. You can always dial back the speed a little to maintain a comfortable pedal cadence. I think a lot of folks around here have tried to save a few bucks in the beginning, only to spend many times more later in upgrades...

Dogman, Which gearmotor are you looking at? Is that the "worldwide" kit or something?

hightekbikes.com motor kit review. Electric bike kit.

My motor makes the same noise if I try to start from a dead stop, or when I'm on a steep climb and the motor start to slow and work hard. I think its normal, just some vibration that is amplified by the spokes and wheel.

Shunt mod to BL36 controller... I think I went too far

That is nice to have a rest like that before you get home, mine is uphill till the last 1/4mi. so even if I try to take it easy, I'm still all overheated when I arrive... no time to "aircool"... :D I tried to range test my battery today... I've never had it cut out on me, till today, and it...

Series connections for duct tape batteries

I'm not sure there would be room in this controller... the caps might fit but not much room under the board... FYI, I'm an electrician, so I get most of the theory, but, the board level stuff can cause some mind melting on my part..  Edit: Mr Ping advises using diodes in...

Series connections for duct tape batteries

Return trip is ALWAYS uphill, so yeah, a nice reliable setup, with more than enough power is the goal. What I got is good, if I lived in a flatter area, my bike would be done, but, I'm not so lucky in that regard. The controller is a WE brand but the same one that is pictured here, in...

Series connections for duct tape batteries

Your ideas on the mods are most interesting, if not a little intimidating.. ebikes.ca has 20 and 30amp, 24-72V contollers for sale, Justin says he sets the LVC for 19V and lets the CA and user set the rest. I can see ending up with my current controller modded and running on a townie...

Series connections for duct tape batteries

Hi all, So I am considering getting a ping 24V 15ah, battery to connect to my 36v15ah HTB lifepoe in series for 60v nominal ... both have a BMS, can this be done with out heavy mods to the batteries? I will be changing to a 24-72v controller and CA to limit thinks and keep an eye out. Lots...

Shunt mod to BL36 controller... I think I went too far

dnum, The pic you see with all of the solder, most of that was as delivered. So if I was to redo my "mod', I would need to upgrade the caps too.... :? I have a BMS and plan to have a CA at some point so LVC isn't a problem i dont think,, as a matter of fact, I haven't gone below 35 volts at...

Shunt mod to BL36 controller... I think I went too far

I know... :x The rim is a POS. The controller actually looks like a pretty decent unit in my limited experience, maybe they got a "deal" on a bulk purchase. FWIW, I removed most of my "mod" and it's pretty much back to what it was, now 25amps max. I will be leaving it as is, and looking at...

Shunt mod to BL36 controller... I think I went too far

Its above my head at this point, however, that is the same controller it appears, and yes, it has 12 FETs. As posted earlier, I maxed out at a little over 23 amps routinely before. There are two shunt wires, and before I messed with it, it had a glob of solder in between the two wires on one...

Shunt mod to BL36 controller... I think I went too far

Oh yeah? That's good to hear... I did clean it up a some and will retest it tomorrow, my test ride is mostly all uphill ~4+% for a couple of miles and the controller felt only very mildly warm on the heat sink side. The motor wasn't warm hardly at all... Thanks, Chris

Shunt mod to BL36 controller... I think I went too far

Just in case anyone has, or is thinking of trying to get more amps out of a BL36 (or Aotema) controller... here's what NOT to do! I found what I believe are they shunts, there are two in parallel, I don't have a "before" pic, but they were soldered together heavily on one end. The...

    Nine Continent Vs. Bafang

Is your motor the one advertised as 500W? I think I read that Russel's is advertised as the smaller 24v 250 watt, just wondering how they compare at 36volts. I like your idea of higher voltage and lower gearing to get power without drawing a huge amount of Amp Hours. Going for a ride today and...

    Nine Continent Vs. Bafang

Thanks for that great comparison... The little details really help when you can't ride these things yourself. Its interesting to me that the power consumed is almost the same... even though its the same controller, seems odd given the size difference. I can totally relate to trying to ride...

    Bike build help

Good questions asked... I had the same ones before I went with my front motor. I wasn't clear about the difference in "cassettes" and "freewheels" which, I think is what the questions is? That should be a fun bike... maybe a little scary/heavy on slippery downhill sections! Be safe.. :D

    Nine Continent Vs. Bafang

Russel, I'm very interested in your comparison as well... I really like the lighter weight and freewheeling aspects of the geared motor. 8)
