Just received a 48V pack from Aliexpress. Did I get boned?

It would appear that I was wrong about the 13S10P as it is only a 13S9P 18Ah pack: It would appear that cheap packing pieces produce more profit for the seller than fitting another 13 non-genuine cells! Alan

Just received a 48V pack from Aliexpress. Did I get boned?

They appear to be using YG INR18650E 2000mAh cells, probably in a 13S10P configuration: Check out this thread on the Golden Motor forum for further details. Alan

Drift Trike 20" Front Motor Hub Suggestions

The 20" Magic Pie can be fitted with 16" motorbike tyres which should be heavier and also harder wearing. The USB cable can be used to slow the acceleration down to prevent/reduce wheel-spin on take off. Getting the software to communicate with the controller can be very difficult if you don't...

HELP!! Tried to connect battery and it sparks

I totally agree with Drunkskunk, if you have a direct short on the battery lead it will be very obvious: A direct short works just like a pacemaker - it instantly starts your heart pumping again. Alan

Magic Pie Vector - How do I program this via USB?

PD_282 is the wrong program for the Vector controller. I have uploaded the driver and programming software that I used with both Windows 7 and XP to a Dropbox folder that can be accessed here. First you’ll need to install the correct driver for the USB lead (download and run CH341SER.EXE in...

Did I kill all my LiPo??

Although 40mA may seem insignificant, it's still more than enough to kill a fully charged 16Ah pack if you should accidentally leave it connected and turned on for three weeks. 16Ah/0.040A = 400hrs or 16 days and 16 hours. Alan

Golden motor mini hub - off center

Kevin, A bent axle is extremely unlikely, but if it was bent, it could not cause the hub housing to wobble because the axle does not rotate! Alan

How much torque on the rear nuts?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I did some rough calculations on my motor and worked out that the force from the axle trying to spread the gap would be at least 500Kg (1100lbs)! (That was with a measured force of just 15Kg (33lbs) at the tyre.) Rear drop-outs are more vulnerable to damage...

    Magic Pie dual-drive

My thoughts exactly. Just need to sort out a 20" Magic Pie. Or modify the front forks to take a disc brake and this high rpm 16" Magic Pie: Alan

Testing the big 15 and 20Ah LiFePO4 cells is tough! *Pics*

Just a suggestion, but have you considered using a pair of identical cables in parallel and just put the clamp on one of them? You should be able to measure up to 800 Amps by simply doubling the reading on your current clamp. Alan

Golden motor mini hub - off center

I think it's just an unfortunate mistake during assembly in the factory and they've somehow used a rear housing to build the front hub. They've used the correct end cover plate, and axle assembly, but got one rather important piece wrong! As these parts are assembled by hand, the occasional...

    My Kona Smoke 29'er

So long as the rollers and springs were refitted to take the drive load it should work fine, but don't think about using regen with it, or you will definitely be asking for trouble! Alan

Switching beteen 24 and 48 Volts

Thanks for the reassuring response Fechter, and also the constant current suggestion, but I'm probably going to stick with the constant voltage set-up, as I think it will be easier if I want to include a switched or variable resistance for High or Low headlamp power without altering the...

Switching beteen 24 and 48 Volts

Hi all, I have a Magic Pie on order from Golden Motor, and I'm thinking of wiring two 24V 5Ah lipo packs so I can easily switch between series and parallel to enable a 24V "legal" setting, which will hopefully give improved regen at lower speeds, and the option of 48V for higher power/speed...

Golden Motor Magic Pie - first taste

I know that's correct, as he was using the 48V 12Ah version of this rack pack: It would appear that the Magic Pie is also a good hill climber: I then had to ask the obvious question," Do you have a special technique for climbing a 50 degree hill without flipping over backwards?" Whichever...

Golden Motor Magic Pie - first taste

I think this should help to clarify things: Notice the similarity with the colours and positioning of the wires: The biggest problem with reversing the wires on the controller might become apparent if you ever needed to replace the two pin offset connectors. If you simply chopped them off...

Repository for 3D Part Models, Drawings & Schematics

Thanks for all that information amberwolf, but I don't know how much of it will be relevant to TurboCad. When I get some spare time I will have a play with it and see how many of your suggestions I can use. Alan

Repository for 3D Part Models, Drawings & Schematics

I was just playing with TurboCad when I did the piece of chain, but eventually gave up because the processing was taking ages as I added more links. It was originally done purely as an exercise just to see what I could do with TurboCad, but I never got as far as a chainwheel, rear sprockets and...

Need help with Wan Lian wheel motor.

The speed controller on my father's Peerless bike is hidden within the frame directly below the 24V NiMh battery pack. There are removable access covers screwed on either side of the frame behind the lower bracket area. The three thin wires going to the rear 250Watt motor were connected to a...

    interresting high-perfomance SLA´s ?

According to the Specifications CSB HR 1234W it can be used for more than 260 cycles at 100% discharge in cycle service. If it can only supply 5.99Amps for 60 minutes, I would have thought it should be rated as 6Ah not 9Ah.
