    The Student-Made Industrial-Strength Electric Tricycle

Mike Looks like you have a very impressive electric tricycle. I have been toying with the idea of electrifying a tricycle. I have an electric bike that I made and it works well. An electric tricycle would be a bit more practical for everyday use. I would like to check out your tricycle to...

    A right angle gearbox?

Hello DeathBlade I have done almost exactly what you want to do. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=14327 I hope this link works. Or search First build 2 speed e-bike. The bevel gears I used are straight cut and are very loud. I experimented with helical cut bevel gears and...

    I want train-approaching-station alternating lights!

Could you use an automotive flasher module, the thing that makes your signal flash. I don't know what there called but any automotive store would have one. You would wire that to a spdt relay so one light is n.o. and the other is n.c. When the flasher cycles it will energize the relay and...

    2 speed transmision evolution----

Yes, I was suggesting a mirrored pair of sprockets, but if you limited to a min. of 26 teeth then it probably will not work. The smallest pair of sprockets you could use would be 26 / 37. This would give you your original 2:1 low range, 1.4 x 1.4. The 37 tooth sprocket would be just over 3"...

    2 speed transmision evolution----

Todd Very impressive build! There might be a way to get more reduction out of this box without increasing it size. I read your other post about this transmission and studied the pictures. It appears the sprockets on the input shaft are fixed and the ones on the output shaft float on...

Left side drive with disc brake

Here is a thought, do you think there is a way to incorporate the brake rotor and the sprocket in one unit? The caliper could be made to grab the rotor just below the sprocket teeth. There would be a spot on the sprocket where there is no chain, this is where the caliper could be placed...

To gear or not to gear, that is the question.

Hello, I have a two speed transmission on my bike and it works quite well. My bike is relatively low powered compared to other bikes on this forum and having the two speeds keeps the power use low. If I start off in high range from a stand still then I can see a spike of over 80 amps, but if...

    First build 2 speed e-bike

Yes I did build the gear box my self. A good source for just about anything is McMaster Carr. Check out their web site, if you need it they will probably have it, and have it delivered the next day. I sourced most of my parts from them.

    First build 2 speed e-bike

Miles, Here are some screen shots of the model. As you can see from the model the motor drives the miter gears which drives the pinion and the spur gear. This is the high gear and it is a 3.2:1 ratio. I lock the output shaft to the spur gear to select high range by sliding the selector gear...

Hello, I am new to posting here but have been reading here for quite a while. This forum is full of useful information and has inspired me to build my first E-bike. I thought I would post some pictures to see what you think of it. I have read post of guys building two speed gear boxes so...
