    Trek full suspension with BBS02

Got this finished with help from my brother who owns a bike shop. The remaining components were picked out of out of the junk pile... The battery is two Zippy 6S 10AH packs. I intended to put these in a seat post bag but haven't got one yet, so used an old camera bag zip tied to the handlebars...

    Trek full suspension with BBS02

OK, I think I understand now. The 3 pin quick connector is for a gear sensor. This isn't supplied with the kit and from what I can gather, they are an expensive and not very useful accessory. https://electricbike-blog.com/2016/03/21/is-the-gearsensor-a-total-waste-of-money-or-a-must-have/ The...

    Trek full suspension with BBS02

Hi all, I bought a BBBS02 to install on my old Trek VRX 400 after reading about them here. I previously had a 9C hub and Lyen controller on it, but the 9C seized due to water ingress. The 9C wasn't suited for crawling up steep hills anyway, which is what I hope to do now. Parts arrived...

A whole new level of spun axles - what 10KW does to an X5

I have seen that used on hydraulic pistons to stop them from unscrewing themselves from the shaft (obviously you can't put a set-screw through the shaft). On the x5 it looks like you would have room for a set-screw, so maybe that is preferable.

**Important** reality check on motor, voltage, current etc.

That's how the bigger EV controllers (Curtis etc) do it. A resistor for each FET. I didn't think you could do it any other way!

    Aerodynamics of world record HPV

Don't know if it's been mentioned but Cedric Lynch's streamliner is closer to something that you can actually imagine driving on the highway (and he does, I'e seen it!) http://www.bikeweb.com/image/tid/57 I think it uses quite a few MTB components, including tyres.

    Quiet please

I tried my 9c motor with infinion controller on the bench last night. When you apply just enough power to turn the motor gradually, I was surprised to be able to hear a noticeable "click-click-click" as it turns, very like a freewheel. If you load the motor by slowing it with your hand, the...

    New toys!

No purpose to this thread other than to say that my 9c motor, Lyen controller and other bits and pieces came through the post so I spent the evening joining the wires together and to my bench power supply (no batteries yet) and spinning the motor up.. What a cool noise :D Flat out on 60V...

**Important** reality check on motor, voltage, current etc.

Controllers I'm familiar with simply switch the FETs off if the current is exceeded, which is sensed very quickly on a cycle-by-cycle basis. The phase current will start to fall (it is maintained for a while by the motor inductance causing current to flow through the commutation diodes). Over...

Instead of DC-DC Converters, Why Couldn't We Do This?

Apologies, I didn't realise he was using cell level chargers. Then, it's OK. But I think most people are not, and a normal BMS won't cope with this very well. It would also be OK to tap a single pack if you have, say, 6S LiPo packs that are charged individually on the bench. I would still...

Instead of DC-DC Converters, Why Couldn't We Do This?

If you are charging all the pack in a series configuration, then do not do this! The imbalance is cumulative - i.e. the small balance resistors on your BMS will not be able to correct it when you charge, possibly over-volting the rest of the cells or terminating the charge early. Then next...

    Cycle analyst above 200V

Hmmm. That does rather undermine your point that it's "pretty easy" to roll your own, since you've ended up using a ripped CA binary :D Anyway, I think the original question has been answered, to use with a very high pack voltage, separate out the power supply from the voltage measurement...

    Cycle analyst above 200V

Yep, my current e-bike is also made of rescued / cheap off ebay parts cobbled together :) The next one is a bit more spendy, mostly new parts on a free used frame. I agree with what you're saying, and I've been there and done that more than once. To make it "perfect" there are still...

    Where to get a 48V 40A relay

It's not a huge problem to use a resistor in series is it? OK a little power is wasted.. You could use a coil economiser circuit instead - it could use less power than the directly connected relay. Or, don't use a relay at all, just use a 12V isolator switch (tractor battery switch) - No...

Help with lead acid battery charger!

I wouldn't use a battery intended for automotive (flooded) battery charging with a small AGM. The smallest Soneil might be good: http://soneil.com/12_volt.html Bear in mind that charging the batteries seperately may help keep them balanced, but you have the risk of one charger failing, and...

    Cycle analyst above 200V

The code is easy, the refinements to make the unit as a whole accurate (especially on AH counting) can take some time to get right. This is already done for you in the CA, so I think that for the price, it's a bargain!

    Cycle analyst above 200V

We do lack good and cheap instrumentation like the CA in the EV world! The usual meter for that sort of voltage would be the "E-Meter" (Xantrex Link 10). There is also a fancy meter made by Metric Mind, but I expect the price is quite high. Bear in mind that the E-meter uses a voltage divider...

I assume the 6/8 cell chargers have a boost converter. Power out = power in - losses, so if it gives 30V 5A out it must take at least 10A at 15V (for example). Can't wait for all the bits to arrive. Did you say you had videos of your BMX in action knoxie?

Awesome! I happen to have one of these guys: http://www.rapidonline.com/sku/Electrical-Power/Power-Supplies/Bench-PSUs/25A-40A-Switch-mode-power-supplies/65063/85-1828 - I got it in a sale, it's been very useful (although not radio grade) and hopefully will run the lipo charger/balancer as well.

    220-250VAC outlet wiring (OT-ish)

    1) the neutral line could carry current so may have quite a high AC voltage on it with respect to ground (that you are standing on). This can give you a "surprise" even when there is no other fault! 2) If there is another fault (disconnected neutral, mis-wired outlet, etc) then you have no...

Magic Shine Headlight, DIY battery pack

Universal input switch-mode supplies (like the one mentioned) will work quite happily off DC, because the first thing that they do is rectify the AC anyway. They normally work in the range of 90-260VAC. This means that you want at least 120VDC before they will turn on! On an electric car you...

hands-free e-system for quadriplegic with hand pedal tricycl

Neat! One option would be a normal hub motor wheel then, instead of the hub brake use a cable operated disc brake, and have that and regen controlled by the one-way-bearing lever thing.
